Which formats can play on xbox

hey ive had a quick search both through google and here but can only find old information and was wondering what formats are playable on xbox 360 actually on console not through media centre just that ive got heroes season 2 in hd (xvid) and would rather watch it on there but havent got pc networked up yet. Sorry if this is somewhere else just redirect me.

From what I understood from one of Major Nelson's podcasts was; you can play movies and shows off of your iPod and Zune, along with other portable devices.

But it hasn't worked for me yet.

I'm pretty sure Divx (xvid) can now be played on the 360 due to the recent update.

awesome, i will give it a try when i get home after xmas, hopefully it does as cant wait to see all these episode especially in hd.

just to let you guys know it didnt work even though i have fall update but then realised i needed optional update and it then worked (the one for mp4 codec)
