Has anyone been able to find a reliable source for news on the Xbox 360 compatibility issue with original Xbox games?

Granted there are a good 200 you can play on the 360, but it just doesnt cut it for me... you think they will ever get this sorted to allow all orginal xbox games to run?

No. They have to pay intel a fortune, to emulate the original Xbox processor for each game.

I doubt there'll be any more games added to the list.

It does if you have lots of original Xbox games. Luckily for me I had a PS2 and GC, but no Xbox (didn't like the controller).

Was considering buying San Andreas to play on the 360 though. Does it run well? Or are there problems, like there are in many of the backwards compatible games?

I have a friend who just got the GTA Triology and has been playing it with no issues on his 360.

Nice one, I'll probably pick it up then.

What are the old Xbox games like on an HDTV? Do they look pretty pixelated?

I think it's BS how all the xbox games aren't compatible. If they would just take some time to do it everyone would be happy. I think it's just the priorities. They had no problem saying, "Halo and Halo 2 will be compatible" BEFORE the release of the 360. They didn't think for 1 second about saying it. It should be like this for xbox 1 new and old games.

I agree completely. Still, there's nothing we can do about it, is there? I played some of Baldur's Gate 2 with a mate of mine the other day on my 360, HDTV (which, luckily for me, was one of the games on the list of compatibles) and it lagged! It would be fine until you entered an area where you had 6 archers/goblins attacking you, and then it would slow down. It affected gameplay and certainly the enjoyment of the game. Real disappointment to be honest.

see i don't get why ppl seem to want backwards compatibility in their consoles and kick up a fuss if they don't get it. sure its nice to be able to play all your old games but before the ps2 we didn't have it and survived. besides, look just keep your old xbox and you're sorted.

Yea I agree but disagree:p If the ps2 did it for all ps1 games and the ps3 will also play all old games, why is it so hard for microsoft?

not all ps1 games were compatible with the ps2
and not all ps2 games will work on ps3
its crap how hardly any games work on the 360
i went out and bought about 8 xbox games to play on my 360 when i picked it up
they are still on my shelf unplayed as none of them are supported
:(
how timesplitters isnt on the compatible list yet ill never know
its got to be 1 of the best multiplayer games ever

You would think a revolutionary system such as the xbox360 would be backward compatible in my opinion. Who wants to keep their old xbox laying around and have to plug it all in, everytime they want to play Timesplitters? Its just inconvenient.

yep i know thats why ive left my ps2 wired up so i can still play it on the net
bloody microsoft
fix the bloody game compatibilaty bit

Microsoft would have liked to allow the 360 to play all original Xbox games, it just wasn't viable with the processors they chose.

At the end of the day I'm sure they did the right thing. By not compromising on the specs of the console, for the sake of backwards compatibility, they have made sure it'll match the PS3 and remain a force to be reckoned with in the future.

By the way, has anyone played a PS1 game recenlty? They really are terrible. The backwards compatibility built into next gen consoles soon becomes a redundant feature.

Aye they have to pay INTEL a whopping amount of cash per game they want to make BC, as they had a fall out with intel about the chips for the 360

Im not so sure mate. I mean, when the PS3 comes out, if it is backwards compatible with ps2 and ps1 games (for example most of the library of older games) than I am sure more people will want the PS3 as it will have an enormous library of games to go towards the new PS3 games.

I know its not the be all and end all that systems are backward compatible, but it does add to the general excitement if you can still play your favourite Resident Evil on the revolutionary console that cost you £400!

Just keep your old consoles I say, I prefer to play it on its original. plus you build up one heck of a collection

Some interesting news about xbox 360 compatibility (or lack of), and how this may affect competition...

360 has already sold 10 million?

Sony announced earlier this year, that whichever company sold 10 mil first would win the Next Gen Battle. Looks like they're screwed (by their own prediction).

I doubt the backwards compatibility issue will have that big an affect really. The majority of people buy a next gen console for next gen games don't they?

(The brains at Microsoft must surely agree.)

One would think so yes, although I still feel sad inside... ;)
