View Full Version : New dashboard feature: Hard drive matinence

Apparently, included in the update is a new feature thats almost hidden in some senses. What it does is clears the cache on ur hard drive (or MU) and also clears other things (like the new oblivion patch?).

In order to activate this matience, you go to memory under the system blade and then select ur device. At the screen where it tells you all the info about ur device, you hit X, X, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X, X. It will then ask you if youre sure u want to preform matinence on ur HD.

The article that i got this from can be found HERE (http://xbox360.qj.net/Maintenance-Feature-Included-In-Xbox-360-Dashboard-Update-/pg/49/aid/53232), and includes a video of some1 doing this - keep in mind its in German.

It says in the article that this clears ur cache AND any software downloads (im guessing this is like downloadable maps, etc.) as well as things like the oblivion patch.

The only real benefit i see in this is if you have the ability to play oblivion online without the patch. Im really not brave enough to try this, in fear of important things getting deleted, but if some1 else is going to PLEASE POST HERE and tell us exactly what it did.

As a worker at Microsoft I strongly suggest that you do not do this. It automacially VOIDS your warranty. If your 360 OR Hard drive gets messed up, it will be void'ed and we will charge you money to get it fixed.

I am quoting this from the person who found this out...

"...Be reminded that the clear cache feature will remove all game software (http://xbox360.qj.net/Maintenance-Feature-Included-In-Xbox-360-Dashboard-Update-/pg/49/aid/53232#) updates and may in a way damage your console (http://xbox360.qj.net/Maintenance-Feature-Included-In-Xbox-360-Dashboard-Update-/pg/49/aid/53232#). So perform this feature at your own risk. Remember, we warned you."

Customer Support and sometimes I work on the Xbox 360's.
Here is what we said to people who are modding/hacking there 360's

"Genuine and unmodified Microsoft Xbox products provide gamers with the reliability, security, support and dynamic gaming experience that they expect, and genuine and unmodified Microsoft Xbox 360 products are eligible for technical support." But modified consoles, Microsoft added, "will not be eligible for technical support, and the user's warranty will be voided."

When you give us the Xbox 360 serial number and your gamertag or first and last name, we can tell if your Xbox 360 was modifed in any way.

And let me tell you a secret. We used glue for the firmware chip of the TS-ODD drive to hold it in place.

If you Remove the substance is sure to break the IC/legs, which then your Xbox 360 is broken and will not work and will void warranty on it.

Just a tip, not many people know about the glue part.... be wise when you think you are going to mod/hack/pirate your xbox 360 ;)

lol, we did that so hackers could not hack very easily... if you mess up, your xbox 360 will not work and we will not fix it. You will have to buy a new one.

For some reason I don't believe you Perfect Gun. Microsoft and EB and yet you sound like your 14. Try to live a good life on the internet, I don't care.

I dont think he meant you sound like your 14, if he did, then yeah..

But all of your posts are usually so juvenile in nature, sure its just customer support, and sure you make less money than me in doing that if you do, but i still dont believe you

with all the people in your wonderful college/work life, you still don't know what blasphemy is.

Anyways:
@Krazie: I did mean both actually - he sounded like he was 14 and his posts are utterly useless in my field of sense.

Oh well, I'm going to stop before something starts burning.

I doubt i'll be doing the clear cache thing, just in case. Don't fancy downloading all them updates again!

I agree, maybe it will become useful later on... If my 360 becomes a "slow-down" haven, I might resort to it.

This was my thought! My 360 certainly needs a defrag feature - to sort out my slow hard drive.

Everytime I download anything, my 360 takes longer and longer to load profiles.

Maybe I've missed something - is there a defrag tool already?

Well I did it I didn't lose anything except for my updates for games. I still had all my DLC from the marketpalce though. Also I have had my XBOX serviced by microsoft after said action was performed and no problem was brought up since no one is actually hacking or whatever was said since its just a maintence tool. It WILL NOT void your warranty or cause u to lose game saves, all that will hapeen is you'll need to accept the updates for all games when you put them in again or no signing into XBOX Live. Good for THP8, Oblivion $ glitch, and lots more.
