Have a few questions about free play mode

Just replayed the first mission on Hard in free mode and it didn't save my new stats. Does it only save the first run through? I was gonna try for the S ranking on all Hard missions and then also get the 0 damage at the same time, unless it gets too difficult. Anyway, do I just have to wait until my next play through or something? If this is the case I'll just restart now.

Well I never attempted free mode until after I'd went through the campaign mode. But it does update my rank if I get a higher score than on the previous play through. So I'm guessing you'll have to play through it once on campaign.

Yeah I just re-did the game on easy and then went back to get some more money for the Mirage2000 and it reset my scores. Which baffled me because I'm half asleep from being up all night and yesterday on hard it didn't update them. Did this bugger up my only using bullets run through now that it saved missile usage? Or does the game know that I had already passed that level using only machine guns?

Edit: Apparently I checked the wrong stats screen. I had zero damage and 100% gun usage from level 1-4 then went all out on 5 because I thought I screwed up. Now I did screw up. Am I gonna have to wait now?

Hmmm, You might be able to go back through mission 5 in freeplay and get the medal. I don't know if you have to go through a whole campaign in order.
