Located over on the XBox.com forums is a description of the DNS part of XBox Live

-DNS

The DNS (Domain Name System) is a protocol that benefits users of the internet by making it possible to contact another computer by the use of user-friendly named addresses--Xbox.com for example--instead of IP addresses, which are strings of numbers that are not as easy to remember as a name. It basically allows a computer to ask a DNS server what the IP address of a named address is.

The Xbox Live servers are assigned DNS addresses by Microsoft. The Xbox, when connecting to Live, is instructed to look up the IP addresses of the Xbox Live servers to start communicating with them. Once it has their IP address, it may start communicating with them.

DNS servers operate on TCP and UDP port 53.

You may want to access your router or whatever you use and opens these ports. Hope this helps :D

If its a direct connection and im assuming you mean xbox to pc for your internet, then i Guess you aint using a router?

Make sure that your fire wall hasnt changed the settings for some reason, make sure its all open, also if you have windows defender or just got it, you will have to allow your xbox through.

If you are using zonealarm make sure that your xbox is added to your trusted zone

Call Customer Service at Xbox. Call 1-800-4-MYXBOX. Tell him your serial number (for the 360 if they ask) and your Hub/Modem. There are some modems/hubs that will not work with Live even if it worked before.

Fuck all that, just reset you Modem and/or Router by unplugging them both for at least a min. This will reset your IP address. Plug in the router first, the modem second. Make sure any hardware that is plugged into the router (PC, XBox ect.) is turned off while doing this.

mine was acting up twice...like id try to sign on and it would say "some profiles could not be signed into xbox live please try again later" or something like that and it let me test my connection...when i tested it it let me on..does anyone know why that happened? like does anyone know why i had to test my connection 2 times (2 different times not on the same day) so it would let me on?
