lots of mixed reviews for this.
just wanting peoples opinions, i was going to go for this or mass effect (cant afford both) but as this is getting very mixed reviews i wasnt sure.
Mass effect will be time consuming but should i make time for assassins creed?

I'm loving the game and would recommend it to anyone who likes freeroam games. But if it's this OR Mass Effect I'd say wait and check out next weeks reviews for that one first.
This doesn't have multiplayer so you don't have to worry about missing out on the initial busy spell. If you pick it up now or in the January sales it's not really a problem.

If you want all of the achievements, don't rent the game just buy it because it will take at least a full week to get all the flags and such. If you don't really care about the achievements much though (which you should since you're on this website), then just rent it and experience its horrible story

rest my case.
never seen so much opinion split over this game, some saying game of the year, some saying utter sh*ite.
I think i will wait for a demo maybe before i use 40 quid on it and find its crap.

There wont be a demo for the game, been confirmed over and over.
Its not shit- the worst review Iv seen was a 6.5, which still isnt that bad. And considering most reviews are 9 or 10, thats a good average.
See what others think here (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45116).

Yeah thats true, but then again every1 has different likings. I think Assassin's Creed is like a Hitman/Tomb Raider type feel to it (plays like TR but has that hitman feel to it). Been playing it on and off for like 2 weeks now and i still cant get over how repetitious it can be with the side missions. I think its the same guy but it different places.
(lolol, jk, but trying to show repetitious nature of the game).
To me its not a 8 or a 9 like i seen in most posts, i give it like a 6.5 or so. Thats just like the pre-release previews and mass hype for MASS EFFECT. Been playing that for about a week now and i still have yet to see the "GOTY" or the hype that was built up over a span of a year or so for the release of this EPIC game (or as they had us believe). Well as i get further in the game, that might change but as of yet it hasn't.
M.E is nice looking and you have control of what is gonna be said in a convo, but asides that, not much there to keep me glued to the screen. But like i said earlier, its just IMO and every1 doesnt have the same taste in games.

It's as repetitious as any game like Hitman or Tomb Raider. Your description of repetitious can apply to almost any game.
I personally think it was worth every single damn penny. I love the game. It's fantastic and who ever said the story line is bad is nuts. Then again most people have zero taste in anything now and think Halo has a good story.. *puke*

Seems like you missed that parts where i said IMO. Secondly, HALO3 is GARBAGE! *Yet another game full of #$@&..lolol

Well i cant agree with you on the AC part being worth every penny,IMO. Mostly all games of open world/sandbox genre are repetitious on character models but they change the way up have to go about a mission making it a lil more tolerable, but A.C is the SAME extra missions (Side missions) like pickpocket targets, save villager, etc.
The story line is not bad at all, but for the hype and marketing done for this game and for what its worth, i expected a lil better

Repetitious character models? AC has a wide array of unique NPC character models. You rarely see the same face. But I don't think that's what you mean. Of course, you act like you don't like free roam games and in that case, this is not worth your money but it is worth every penny for people who enjoy this type of game play.
Really, what game on the 360 did you think was great? Excluding Oblivion because everyone knows how damn good that game is.

It's currently got an 83 on MetaCritic.com which is definitely far above an average game. Anyway, I was on the fence about this title as well, but I let my curiosity get the best of me last night and I bought it. Played for a couple hours and I'm glad I did. It's a lot of fun. And every game can start to seem repetitive so don't let those comments sway you away from this terrific game! It's a lot of fun!

Well here are my 2 cents :
The story is awesome , hands down , but to explain why it's awesome , I would spoil too much ;)
The Graphics , animation , sound etc are all top notch
And for the repetitions in the gameplay , I consider them well blended into the whole "explore the hughe and awesome world" aspect of the game and you are an assassin for crying out loud , you explore , pickpocket , steal and kill ! I don't get what other people expect from the role of an assassin ? Flying a spaceship ?
To quote what other people already said
The description of repetitious can apply to almost any gameAnd to quote from a Penny Acade blogpost
A game like Assassins creed isn't meant to be played under a deadline.(...)You shouldn't be trying to beat it as fast as you canThat is 100% the point I‘m trying to make , the game has so much to offer but if you just run from one objective to another one you'll end up saying
If you play Assassin's Creed for an hour, you will probably think it's a fantastic game. But as Assassin's progresses, its dual storylines and repetitive quests begin to grow tiresome.... yeah right IGN

Repetitive or not, there are lots of things to see and do, and I enjoy the crap out of this game.
Yes, the side missions are the same, but only if you aren't paying attention to the story. You need to save citizens, both because you're really a decent guy and because it's sets up an escape route for your big kill.
If you pay attention to the eavesdrops, they give you hints on what strategies/tactics your main target will try to use to escape or kill you, and you are more prepared.
Pickpocketing is the same way, it'll give you added info to make your job easier. Besides, pickpocketing takes like 10 seconds after the conversation is over.
Informants are also the same, but also the most fun. Those flag races are hard as hell and help me improve my freerunning precision, and the silent assassination missions are sometimes more fun than the main target.
To me, the only side mission type that is actually boring and repetitive is the climbing of view points. They were put in purely for eye candy and get old fast. At least the viewpoints in the countrysides allow me to invent my own mini-games like "silentshank every guard at the tower before climbing up it."
Overall it's definitely worth buying as long as you are going to get into the game and its mindset. If all you are playing to do is complete Mission 41 en route to Target 7 then you aren't going to enjoy it. But if you are playing as Altair, learning your targets, mapping their movements, recruiting allies, and then making the kill, you'll have a blast.

I think the best way to know for sure which game to get it to check the reviews and also to play the demo. So try both and you can evaluate what to do from there.

There will be no demo. and Dock Zock put it very nicely :) Next time try to make it one post though. Double posting is blasphemy :p

if splinter cell and prince of persia were to have a baby and that baby was to have a love child with the huge landscapes and roaming in shadow of the collosus (so its a ps2 game it still rocks) and that child was to have a baby with the 3rd crusade this would be the outcome.
story is kool, proper trip if u dont pay attention, and it does have a certain replay value once uv completed it.
there are some bits that get repetative but u can always slap sum guards up and see how many u can get on ur ass :D

For me it's worth it in every sense. I find the game just flat out fun and I enjoy the side quests as well. I just got done capturing flags in Artec as well as assassinating one of the Templars and enjoyed both side quests immensely. I'm also picking up Mass Effect so if you only have $60 to spend that might be your better choice.
