Well, here's episode six. This week we have some inside info on Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed, two of the most hyped games of the year. As well as our views, we have Chris from Ubisoft talking us through Assassin's Creed as well....

We've brought back the Achievement Challenge this week, which will see someone winning a cool Assassin's Creed Tshirt.

Other than that, it's the standard weekly dose of news, achievements and banter that at least 73 people listen to weekly :p

Thanks out to Highpass for the editing and RX for re-checking and giving us earache in his attempts to shorten the podcast (ooops this week lol). We will aim to cut it down next week, honest!!

I don't know, i think it gives it a more natural feel as opposed to two people reading a script for an hour. I know what you're saying, but can't see how that relates to the budget of the show in the slightest (it sounds unrehearsed, sure).

The breathing. My god, man. Stop the breathing into the microphone. That is one of the most annoying things in life. I could only listen to the first 10 minutes or so of this one. I had to stop, and I'll be unsubscribing from iTunes.

No mate, it's over the internet, recorded as two files (or more depending on the situation) which is then mixed together. It's obviously not the best arrangement, but there's little more we can do. Trust I'm looking into the mic issues and what not.

I think it would not have been any problems if you had the experience to talk with the person before, because right now it seriously just sounds you hardly know each other (the break ups). I chat with my friend every day about random stuff and I dont know him IRL, but after the time we know each other so well we know how to handle these situations.

And just get ready to un-mute the headset when ready to speak, I dont think you are quite busy when talking in the headset right?

Well if your biggest gripe about the podcast is that we talk over each other a little bit -- That's alright, we'll work on it.

So your saying if we scripted it word for word to avoid any talking over each other, it'd sound more natural than 2 people having a conversation?

Well, we'll come up with some kind of system where we can avoid talking over each other at all. So the other one knows we're done, after everytime we speak we'll say "OVER" or something, that should prevent any talking over one another. We are thousands and thousands of miles apart, you know, lol..

Haha oh my god man! Major Nelson has top tier equipment and he works for bloody Microsoft! How is that even a fair comparison? The more professional podcasts have prior run throughs and basically "practice it". I could probably list a million reasons on how the comparsion was unfair and comparing it to any other podcast where the people get paid for it and have top tier equipment is unjust. This is a non-paying, low tech podcast with people who live thousand of miles from each other.

I can't say that I find it annoying. It comes off as very natural to me. The majority naturally conversate like that. They don't practice ahead of time, and don't really have a script. They have a lay out and conduct it. They both have work, run other things on the site, and may have a significant other and children. Really they only have one or two tries. Given the time, they will improve.

On top of that, this is their second one together. The Tron and Minty combo was beginning to get better. As for Minty's breathing, I can't say it's bad. I hardly noticed it. I tend to focus more on the content of the conversation rather then minute things such as breathing levels, speaking over one another, stutters, etc. Besides, Minty is like 6'6 or something. The guy needs some deep breathes to get that oxygen into the lungs. :p

You must realize that to improve something, you have to communicate in a clear and sincere manner. Acting like you've been annoyed to death, whining, and moaning does not help. It also makes people think much lesser of your opinion. Honestly, both of you came off as people that have no conversational faults.

Also, references would have been nice. All I heard were things like Minty fading off then Krazie jumping in since he was. Some chuckles while the other was talking. Things I really expect in a normal conversation. I want you to look at the best show ever. PTI (Pardon the Interruption). If you have never seen it, go watch it. They're both loud and talk over each other all the time and it's a professional show. It's such a great show actually. Then again, maybe I find this podcast good because I enjoy shows similar to PTI.

Either way, Krazie and Minty are really humble guys. They did not jump on the defense and accepted your opinions but really for future purposes, let's play nice :) I know, if you get really annoyed you just want to blurt it all out in the exact same manner you feel it. By the way it, the podcast is low budget because there is NO budget.

These are good questions and you are definitely NOT the first to encounter these type of problems!

Some breath is going to be heard no matter what you do but there are some things you can do that will help.

First of all and probably most importantly, get a pop filter. A lot of breath sound comes from the 'plosive' consanents like b and p. A pop filter does a great job of eliminating these. For the headset mic, I'm not sure - but I guess you can make sure you have a 'wind-filter' on the mic.

Second of all, good mic technique usually consists of a) moving your head different distances away from the mic depending on how loud you talk - if you look closely to singers, you'll notice this - it's usually not instict, it does have to be learned -BUT it's also not that hard. You want you voice to be as consistent sounding as possible. If you laugh hard - pull back a bit for the laugh, if you have a quiet passage, move in for the passage. If you are not talking, pull way back. Generally the rule is to be about 6" from the mic but it can vary depending on the mic, etc... But if you are breathing and not talking , you shouldn't be up close to the mic. Oh - and speak directly into the mic. Above it will sound more nasal and below it will sound deeper (actually knowing this can also be useful).

Finally, if none of these quite work for you, you can talk slightly off-axis to the mic. i.e. talk into the mic at an angle. I believe the headset mics tend to be omni - and this technique works better for directional mics (cardoid primarily) BUT if the first two techniques don't help, you can certainly try it.

I do hope these suggestions help. I honestly couldnt listen to more than 15 minutes of the podcast cause the breathing ended up giving me a bit of a headache. Nothing against you guys... its just how my ears and head want to work... cause my heart truly wanted me to keep listening :/

And as for interuptions i think that makes the podcast better, weird i know but if there were no interuptions in a 1 hour podcast it would be inhuman. Maybe you could get webcams so you could see when each of you are going to speak if you want to go along with the no interuptions idea. You could have handsignals lol.

Remember Christmas day is there for arguments, drinking and watching the queens speech drunk (written by the government and recorded week or so before christmas day,bastards). Not podcasts.;)
