Comments/suggestions on the podcasts

I've just finished listening to the podcasts, and I have a few comments and suggestions. Please don't take offense to any of this - this is meant to be constructive.

1. Get some music. The whole "sound effects from your voice" thing is getting a little old. Makes you sound seriously second rate. I would think that it would be fairly easy to find something to use for the opening and closing theme on the internet. I think game music would be best. Possibly talk to a publisher and see if you can get the rights to a game's theme for the podcast. And make sure it's properly faded in and out.

2. There are plenty of podcasts out there that go over new stuff on Marketplace. I'm sure most people here are already listening to Major Nelson and the OXM podcasts, and there's plenty of those types of updates there.

3. Stick to what you guys do best - achievements. See #2. I'm not sure of the best way to approach this, but maybe talk about things such as the difficulty level of a game's achievements, unique achievements, dumb achievements, etc. Maybe create a topic here on the Forums where gamers can post their experiences getting achievements and mention those on the 'cast.

4. Relax. :)

5. Don't read. Pretend like you're talking to us over lunch, or having a beer/ale, etc.

6. Please, please, PLEASE. Stop with the whole Fast Talking Japanese Guy imitations. It was old after the first time you did it.

7. Work through the technical issues. Sometimes one voice is louder than another, etc. I know you're just starting out, so I'm sure these will all be worked out over time.

8. Practice up on the interviewing skills. They just seem to be, I don't know ... forced, uncomfortable. See #4.

9. Find something unique that no other gaming podcast it doing. Again, maybe post a Forum topic and look for suggestions from the people that will be listening ... us! :Bounce:

This is just my $0.02 worth. Keep improving and you guys will be fine! :)

Nice constructive criticism there, ta very much.

Please note, though:

1. We had pre/post jingles but found a few users thought they got in the way of the cast or weren't worth the time. I'm personally not bothered either way but would have to side with keeping some sort of jingle for each week (perhaps lonsta's H3 remix).

7. This problem changes every week i'm afraid and it's hard to manage considering i can't set up and monitor the speakers' mics properly, not to mention the amount of time i'd need to spend equalising the two perfectly would take forever. Yes it can all be edited and whatnot after, it's just hassle and often ruins the harmonics of either person talking. Minty tends to sigh a lot because he's emo and Krazie breaths like a pedofile, it's just how it is but we'll keep trying to clean it up as much as possible.

Just to add my 2p in...

1. We have asked for jingles from people- we want this to be a community podcast. If people dont respond soon, we will look elsewhere, but thats kind of defeating the object.

3. We dont just cover achievments on the site, we cover everything 360 related. Taking a minute to discuss the marketplace doesnt kill anyone, and not everyone listens to the other podcasts....

5. We are relaxed.

5. We have to read a basic script to know what we're taking about. Believe it or not we dont memorise every achievment, bit of news or whatever thats done in a week. Other than that, it's all done on the fly.

6. Some people like it, some people dont. Have seen a lot more people saying yes to it than no. Last week Krazie got more excited than a kid in a sweet shop and put it in, but we have already said it wont be in every week. Although it may get added in this week now :p

8. Krazies interviews were with forum members, and yes they were a tad forced. However, the one I did with Webby and Morgen from K&L was fine. Something that has already been resolved. History cant be changed ;)

9. Every week we ask for questions and topics from the listeners- we had it one week and it was added in. Since then noone has responded. So if the people say they want something, then can they please actually respond. the messages havent been hidden in code anywhere- we want them!!

Well I'm really not gonna comment too much, thanks for your thoughts though..

2. Our marketplace section doesnt last that long, and even if you dont believe it, a good portion of our listeners may not listen to other podcasts. This is a podcast for our community, and a lot of our listeners listen to it as such..

3. We go over achievements as much as we can, but we still have to cover all other news/information. I'm gonna try to reinstitute the achievement challenge this week, the last one was a bit of a failure since we went a few weeks without a podcast, so we'll try to start it again, and see where it gets us.

4. Please point out a part of our podcast where we're not relaxed :p

5. I had a problem with having scripted lines when I was doing my own parts, mainly because it was more difficult to be talking by myself, but now that me and minty are doing everything together, I don't think we have a problem with that at all. We have to have guidelines as to what we're talking about because: 1) We cant remember it all and 2) So we both know what direction we're headed in.

6. Obviously you didn't catch the fact that I was making fun of Tron and pretending to be him. That was a one time thing, and I'm pretty sure most of our listeners enjoyed it, lol..

7. My bad on the breathing last week, I never had that problem before, lol

It was there before. Have you listened to the other podcasts? I guess the feedback they received they didn't want it in. I think they should add it back in though but obviously better. And they do have ending music. Didn't you hear it? :p Also using a game's theme is meh for me. I hate sitting on the phone with XBOX and listening to Halo music (mainly because I hated the Halo soundtrack). There are actually a lot of songs that would be much better.

There are plenty of newspapers that report the same news. Same with television shows that do similar things but not everyone reads the same newspaper and not everyone watches the same shows. You see what I'm saying?

It would become fairly drab. Honestly, what's funnier and better then listening to two guys talking about alien boobs? Nothing, my friend, NOTHING! So funny. I can see what you're saying though and yes they should make some additions of such.

I can barely tell they're reading but most of the time they aren't. But again I can see what you're saying. They're both new to this though. A lot of people read off scripts but it takes practice to make it sound like you AREN'T reading it off a script.

You haven't heard the other ones so you don't get it. It's hilarious but they'll eventually stop it.

There's no budget whatsoever. There's only so much you can expect but of course I'm sure the equipment will improve as time goes on. Patience is key. I admit some of the stuff sounds kind of bleh and hard to hear (I.E. Ubisoft explanation of AC) but it'll improve.

Hard dude. They've done what you said and basically any suggestion of adding something. As you can see, it's not as original as you assumed.

Anyways, I think this was a little better then your comment in the other thread. I think you need to be more understanding then oblivious to what they have to work with. I'm positive if you were in a similar situation, your performance wouldn't be as you would hope. And the guys only have so much time to do it. It came out as 1 hr and 7 minutes this time.

What's not wrong with it? :p You seem like the professional in the pod cast. You go from a-z and you're as clear as a bell. I felt etron and minty were just kinda having a conversation about gaming that people just happen to listen to. Having these two very different parts to the podcast made it very unique. If etron is indeed out for whatever reason my advice to you would to either get minty on topic before hand or let minty eat his tea and crumpets. Meaning: Try and stay away from changing the topic too often. I know you have to stay on topic and that's why I feel you two sorta conflict.

Me and Minty seem to conversate more than Tron and Minty did, so I'm kinda confused lol. Our podcasts somehow end up being like an hour, so we have to be talking about somethin :p

Do you want my feedback or not? :p Anyways, I thought you guys were much better in #6 than #5. The first one (#5) felt like a tug of war contest. Now it seems more balanced. It's not minty just making smarts$$ remarks while krazie keeps things rolling. In number six it seemed like minty would start a topic, krazie would comment, and then the two of you switched roles. That balanced the podcast well. Now my only comment would be to shorten the podcast, or have a guide line of the length of each one.

Maybe you guys could do a brief low-down on news of the Wii and PS3, with of course a hint of bashing on them. ;)

For example, if you ever read a 360 magazine, some of them have small captions called 'The Competition' or whatever. They talk about the biggest piece of news from the PS3 and Wii that week/month, then add their own two pence on it.

I think that would make a nice addition, plus it would be something different to talk about too. :p

Hey guys love the podcast. I actually started playing the Fifa games this week because of it. (and they were only 15 bucks :P)

Some constructive comments;

I would really love to hear some more Achievement related news rather than general gaming news. Your comments on achievements related to CSI were good, thats the kind of stuff that people come for. Maybe even dig up some old games form the past and recommend people go back and get the achievements.

I'm sure you have already heard about it but the sound quality of the interviews is bad enough to make to fast forward the interview. Stick to transcripts or tell Edios that you will give K&L a good review if they buy you a new microphone :eek:.

Is 1 week per Podcast really enough time? Truthfully, I don't think it is.

I really think 2 weeks per Podcast would be more suitable, that way you wouldn't have to rush to meet the deadline date, or miss a deadline date.

Plus in two weeks, there would be more things to talk about, making the Podcast longer, making me a happy bunny. ;)

The problem is the lazy bugger spends most of his time on his bed whilst recording (for what reason, nobody knows), and as such doesn't use a desktop mic and pop stand. *shakes fist*

Suffice to say there are plans for getting proper condenser mics etc in the future if things don't pan out with the current setup.

Actually, #7 is the only one I've listened too. The rest wouldn't download. If what you say is true, not looking forward to listening to the rest. Maybe I'll just ask for a transcript. It's not like the previous ones are far worse, just that the mic issues get better as they get used to it... It's early days and considering we don't have proper equipment - and they're at the opposite ends of the Earth - it's all good.

They each use a recording program (Soundforge, Wavelab etc) that captures the mic input whilst they chat over Skype or whatever, each saving purely their own voice as an mp3 which is then uploaded, mixed together, edited for all the swearing and whatnot, then beamed to your ears.

Well it works amazingly for the most part, didnt have problems with it the last time I used it, not sure why there was some issues this time, so I'll probably still use it, just gonna look into a pop shield and hopefully that'll fix it for the loud parts. Otherwise you're going to hear a lot of humming the whole podcast cause my other mic has interference for some reason, and I dont plan on spending another 60 bucks+ for another good mic, lol..

Great podcast guys. As far as the frequency preference, I think that I'd personally prefer to have a new regularly every two weeks than hope to get every week and then have my heart broken and my hopes dashed when I have to wait another two or three days. That's just too much to bear.

I just joined the ipod world in December, and naturally decided to subscribe to the podcast. I recemently took a trip and thought that would be a good time to catch up on the podcasts and listened to the first 8 on a flight for work. In listening to these in order it is clear you guys are getting better every week. What is enjoyable is hearing you guys talk in the same manner I see you posting, consistancy in personality rather than attempting to be TV stars. For those people that want this to be more polished and professional, I say no as that would take away from the personalities we enjoy. If I want polished and formal I will turn on CNN.

Thats exactly how we want to be listened to. What is said in the podcast is the honest opinions of Krazie and myself, and Tron previously. We dont have any problems saying we dont like something, and if we say we love something, then we do. We would rather give a laid back honest view then have words put in our mouths.

I just wanted to say I just finished Episode 10 (cause my laptop has been busted) and I'm here to contribute so you guys keep it up. I've listened since the beginning and although I don't have any suggestions, comments are in the black. I love the podcast its great. By far one of my favorites.

I've just finished listening to the podcasts, and I have a few comments and suggestions. Please don't take offense to any of this - this is meant to be constructive.

1. Get some music. The whole "sound effects from your voice" thing is getting a little old. Makes you sound seriously second rate. I would think that it would be fairly easy to find something to use for the opening and closing theme on the internet. I think game music would be best. Possibly talk to a publisher and see if you can get the rights to a game's theme for the podcast. And make sure it's properly faded in and out.

2. There are plenty of podcasts out there that go over new stuff on Marketplace. I'm sure most people here are already listening to Major Nelson and the OXM podcasts, and there's plenty of those types of updates there.

3. Stick to what you guys do best - achievements. See #2. I'm not sure of the best way to approach this, but maybe talk about things such as the difficulty level of a game's achievements, unique achievements, dumb achievements, etc. Maybe create a topic here on the Forums where gamers can post their experiences getting achievements and mention those on the 'cast.

4. Relax. :)

5. Don't read. Pretend like you're talking to us over lunch, or having a beer/ale, etc.

6. Please, please, PLEASE. Stop with the whole Fast Talking Japanese Guy imitations. It was old after the first time you did it.

7. Work through the technical issues. Sometimes one voice is louder than another, etc. I know you're just starting out, so I'm sure these will all be worked out over time.

8. Practice up on the interviewing skills. They just seem to be, I don't know ... forced, uncomfortable. See #4.

9. Find something unique that no other gaming podcast it doing. Again, maybe post a Forum topic and look for suggestions from the people that will be listening ... us! :Bounce:

I have to disagree with you here. If you listen to all the podcasts you will hear a lot of update on what has been posted on the website already, so if Minty and Krazie were to exclude anything already on the website their pod cast would be cut down dramatically. I like the idea of hearing the announcers discribe particular achievements, specially the more difficult ones. Reading a guide is very helpful, but I am sure that through the amount of play time these two have accumulated they have some good tips on the tougher ones and probably some funny stories to go along with them.

not sure if this has been suggested before but here goes.....

Perhaps like a quick game related quiz simple 5 questions then get the answers later on in the pod cast. Each time minty/crazie comes up with 5 game related quiz type questions to test one another

so perhaps minty tests crazie and vice versa see who is the knowledge and who isnt. Plus users can play along. Seen it work on the Chris Moyles show and Galaxy 105 only takes a couple of minutes if that plus make the pod cast perhaps more of an interactive experience.

Hey guys, just wanted to leave a comment to say i think that the podcast is a really good feature of this site. I've noticed over the past while how much more pro this site has been getting and when i listened to the podcast just the other day for the 1st time it made me realize how much more effort you guys put in than other achievement websites!! Nice one minty and krazie keep up the good work lads!!
