Picked it up today, this really is a top quality game and very different to Dynasty warriors / Samurai Warriors.

Any idea on what the two secret achievements are yet? also what Maximum level do the squads get up to? I'm at 17 for my Sword class and they already devestate any other unit on the battle field.

I had a play over the weekend and am also enjoying it.

I think one of the secret achievements might be "complete every book", i.e. collect all of the missing/extra pages for all of the weapons books. That would meant that you would have access to all troops so would be something cool to aim for.
I just hope that the other secret achievement is not something like "max out every skill" - it would take too long and you'd be forced to use units that you don't like.

But these are just a guess as to what the secrets could be, they might be something simple like England wins the war, France wins the war or kill the French king, kill the English king.

I'm up to the Flanders campaign at the moment, taking advantage of the infinate time limit to rack up levels on my units.

I did consider ranking my troops up while in Flanders but then got carried away and accidently captured the last objective. However, completing that mission increases your maximum fame so your score is no longer going to waste. It also increases your mercenary level which gives you access to loads more equipment from the merchant - I'm now wearing a horned viking helmet.

I've also become suspicious that the "Books" that you require for the achievements are tied to specific levels rather than being random events. The only person on my friends list who has this game has exactly the same achievements and obtained them in the same order; bows, swords and horses at the start then spears, followed by knives, halberds, clubs and I've just got rapiers.

I played the demo but didn't really like it that much, reminded me a little of n3 and kingdom under fire. I will get it when it is a bit cheaper.

Just got the winged helmet for my lady merc and a nice cape :D I working on swordsmen, mainly greatsword and then archers as a secondary.

Archers rape the enemy when leveled up and do well against the pain in the arse Horse charges.

I think you only get certain books at certain points in the game, doesnt seem random to me at all.

Cant wait to get the Roman infantry

I took some Roman spearmen into battle yesterday. They look nice and seem to do OK in battle. But as with all units don't use them against their counter unit or you'll get ripped apart. I guess Moonrogues1's level 76 swordsmen don't have this problem!

I find that once you get your units to 20+ they will destroy pretty much any unit if you use special attacks right, mostly Mighty Arm with sword wave to follow up.

Also if you upgrade the special attacks, you are basically invincible.....combine this with the LB boosts....gods of war

From what I've read elsewhere the two secret achievements are for guns (which is from a series of sidequests) and sappers (which requires 100% in swords, horses, and bows and 70%+ in all the others). No idea if it's true or not, but it would seem to fit.

I'm nearly to my 4th star and I still haven't even seen any elephants. I've found that spears and lancers level the easiest, but I've been working on leveling all the classes (pikemen suck the worst, followed closely by horsebows). My average is about 50% with 4 in the 70s, so maybe I'll find out soon.

Correction. I'm now at 650/1000, only need elephant and chariot books, full 4 star fame, and still have not seen an elephant. Just got the magic book, though, and everything else is averaging in the 60% range, so it's just a matter of time. Wish I knew what the max fame number of stars was so I'd know about how much longer the game is.

I think with the books its more of you can start to get it but when you get it is totally random. As an example in the first stage i was able to get the book of spears. Then later I was watchin a friend of mine play, he finished the irst stage and did no get the book of spears. As for the elephants, i've heard you can't get them till the 2nd to last stage.

Books you get are mostly linked to the fame level.
You cannot get Rapier Long Spear and Axe until Fame 2.
I know this mainly due to the fact I did so many side missions before going on the story and didn't get a single one out of killing a commander or taking a base until I was Ranked 2 Star. The Elephant is more than likely a LATE late add in the game, as would probably be Magic.

I picked up the magic book during the march to the cathedral by the King of France and Joan of Arc and I only have 4 stars. I've seen plenty of chariots so I expect that book soon. Prob right about the elephants. In case you haven't done the cathedral march mission "March to Riems" or something like that, don't freak out when you take the target city and the mission doesn't end. I had every town on the map and it still took the king 2 extra days to get his slow butt to the town and end the mission.

The three unit types that I've found the easiest to level are spears, halberds, and horses (lancers/spears). Spears and halberds do quick, massive damage, but lancers can take 4/5 towns a day if you know how to charge and accellerate.

ya i have all of the achievements except the two secret achievements and beating the game
I'm currently maxed out on the 4th level of fame......just playing missions until it lets the max fame level increase or i beat the game.........
If you are looking for easy achievements this is not the game for you.......I have mainly been just getting the objectives done and not clearing out the whole level like some people do........and I am 37 hours and 30 minutes into my campaign

is this game any good? it looks cool but when i went to buy it at the store the manager seen it on the counter and just flipped... hehe said it was the worst game out for the 360.. and that kinda strayed me from it.. i played the demo for a litle bit, but you can't base a game off the demo... does this game have alot of side quests and abilities to level up and such? fun? let me know please?

Well depends what your after really...

Looks wise its functional, nice but not special...

The draw distance / pop up is shockingly bad

However it controls well, the storyline is interesting and there is alot of depth to flesh out the story some more if you do the side quests.

Vast amount of battles to partake in, lots of unit variety and plenty of rares to collect.

I personally would recommend this game to anyone

is there an rpg style to it? like equipment and customizing of your people and stuff?

Psycence
12-13-2007, 08:54 AM
Yes its very much RPG Lite though..

You earn experience points to level up your different unit types, you can buy / collect / unlock new weapons, armour and shields for your troops to use. You can also mix and match your own armour in anyway you see fit

Spear/Sword/Cavalry = Ownage... These are the only units you need, ever. I found one thing to be true about combat. If the enemy is labeled Green/Weak use a normal attack, if uncolored/equal strength use standard attack or one special attack, if red/strong use stacked special attack coupled with a pennon and you will nearly always win.

I'm really enjoying Bladestorm :) Not the kind of game I'd usually play but I was given a copy to review, thought I'd only play it to review but kept it now rather than the usual ebaying. Makes a nice change for me as it's really not something that would instantly appeal.
I do find it can get a little tedious if I play for too many hours in a row, but for a couple of hours at a time, it's great.
