View Full Version : A few questions from a Katamari rookie...

So I just got this today from Gamefly, and it's the first Katamari game I've ever played, so a few questions...
How come some of the items will have a red "look out!" warning when you roll them up? Does that mean they're bad and shot be avoided?
What does it mean when the screen will blur for a second? I'm guessing that means you've reached a point where you can start rolling up the next level of bigger items, but I may be totally wrong with that assumption.
Do the points mean anything? And, how do you get a better score? I noticed, for example, in the third request, you're supposed to make a Venus consisting of a lot of drinks... so I'm assuming the more items you collect that go along with whatever the level's theme is, the better score you'll have.
I suppose I just wanted those few things cleared up for me... thanks in advance.

The look-out items are usually moving creatures that can harm your Katamari if they bump into you. Once you get big enough you can roll them up.
The blur is for a size increase, it means you have reached the next "size level" and can enter areas that you were restricted from earlier. You can see size requirements on signs sometimes, which is the minimum size you must be to enter.
Higher points mean you did a better job rolling the Katamari. Speed to reach goal, total size of Katamari, items used, and other factors affect your score. Score over 100 points in a stage and you will open Endless mode for that stage.

lol even if you played a katamari game this one is completely different like if your going for achievements to collect stuff and do requests they didn't have that in the other katamari's

To get a better score is based on three things: how quick you get to the required size, how many of the target items you get and then how much past the target size you get at the end.
For instance, I've only got one 100 (Lady Luck Casino) and I got 1.5x the required size and I made sure to grab all the gold bars out of the hidden room in the bookcase, which netted me big points because the item on that level is "luxury" items.
It's definitely not easy to get good scores, but try to be fast and then go way past the target size and you should do decent. However, aside from unlocking Eternal modes, the scores don't seem to mean much.
