The demo (at least the one I played) was really a Beta test for the online mode, but I think it was taken down a while back. So to answer your question, the demo is/was online.

as far as i know this demo is still online with it's own dedicated servers with tons of people playing (some were lvl 50+), but i would suggest trying it soon cause whe the new one comes out i wouldnt be surprised if they wipe the servers and load the new demo on to it
