Minor GTA IV Multiplayer Details

Set for 2008's second quarter, GTA IV was also missing, but Rockstar's man on the scene told GamingExcellence that they had begun testing the various plots and that the developers were considering the possibility of having an open world completely unlocked from the start of the game. We also understand that the game's multiplayer mode, unseen in the GTA franchise since GTA2 in 1997, is aiming for at least 16 simultaneous players, with more than just the usual deathmatch mode.

Glad to see some relatively new details emerging since the thread has really died out since early August...an open style world for GTA would be awesome, chaos and mayhem everywhere!! just imagine the possibilities

This is good news i was glad to hear Saints Row 2 is going to have some kind of open world but now GTA this is very good news.

The multiplayer modes should be pretty fun. I'm glad they're including that. An open world sounds like it'll be great as well. Then we won't have to worry about the police coming to kill you if you enter a new island without unlocking it, like in San Andreas. :p

Hopefully there's a cops and robbers mode or something like it. Or maybe an assassination mode where everyone is trying to kill one player who's trying to escape.

Good ol' deathmatch would be good too :P

So does that mean were gonna have something unique for multiplayer. Sounds good whatever it is but i enjoyed earning new parts of city's and seeing all the newer and better cars they have in that part of the city. :)

I hope they have something to do with taking over territories. Like in San Andreas single player, where you had to attack other gang territories. I would also think if they have many cars. We would see some kind of racing variant.

Multiplayer better be greater than SR's MP, really hated that one. Also I hope there won't be any ridiculous MP achievements...

I hope they don't have a multiplayer deathmatch thing for GTA IV, it would really spoil it for me

GTA isn't about online play, never has been included and it's probably the greatest game franchise of all time

If they have a 4 player co-op that would be perfect

But deathmatch's and things would take it away from what GTA is really all about

i wish they would just focus on single player, instead of having a half assed mulitplayer, and a kinda sorta done single player, we could have an amazing game that was every other gta game.
this is how xbox live is destroying the gaming world as we know it.

Dont be stupid, rockstar know exactly what they are doing. They will be focusing on the single player mostly as it is the most important part of the game. I dont see whats wrong with adding a multiplayer portion to the game, its not going to take anything away from the single player and it will increase GTA's replay value and longevity. To say its going to spoil the GTA franchise is absurd, if anything it will improve it.
