Just enter in big tournaments and if you do well you get noticed...or so I hear.

Being a pro gamer [to me] is a bit overrated.

I don't watch gaming TV or any of that stuff, so I wouldn't know.

But I can't really picture a Tony Hawk game being played pro. It's actually kind of upsetting. They should have Skate instead. In Skate, getting points and doing tricks is so much more rewarding. Or at least I think so.

so i take it skate is pretty awesome then????

sorry for going offtopic there for a second but tony hawk is pretty hard to play well at least it is if you wanna get pro at it...im ok but no where near where i could be

I don't see where the hard part comes in for Tony Hawk... I mean, yes there are people a lot better than me, but only because they'll glitch. I haven't played Tony Hawk Project 8 online for fun... But I can't picture it seriously being any different than American Wasteland.

Being a full on pro like the Unreal PC guys/whatever where you do nothing but play in competitions is a lot of work for a very risky 'job'. If they stop doing them competitions you run out cash and even if they do have them, you need to be pretty good to win.

But I'd consider anyone a Pro if they play in a serious tournament in person, not online.

I've been in a Burnout tournament as you all know from my endless tales of daring do. So that makes me a Pro, hence why I put myself in that Gamer Zone =) I wouldn't consider being an uber pro though, tournaments are enough so long as I get my Rubik's cube and PSP game =D

Truer words have never been spoken.

When I get older I plan to do some MLG, but I'm 13, so only time will tell...

I could go into pro gaming on GoW.

I've played with VVV iG uG T360UK and pritty much every top team in the UK. Even played with LGD Fiberoptix, know to be one of the best people from the states.

All I'd have to do is go to Xleague and other tournaments, but it's not what I want to do really so.

From, what I heard being a Pro-Gamer is similar to testing video games. Video games, play games so much over and over, that they get sick. Apparently if you game for a profession than all you do is play and play to the point where it is painful. Pay is not that good, some of the best don't make that much. Stick with your day job...

Yeah it's very simple to enter tournaments over at the XLeague website.

Some of them are free also, but I think if you wanted to be featured on a televised tournament, you'd have to enter a tournament with a fee, and subscribe to the website with a paying membership no doubt.

I've considered entering some of these tournaments, but I have a very short attention span, and I tend not to stick to games as often as most. Most tournament entrants play non-stop to get as good as they are, so realistically, I would stand no chance. :p

If you want to talk about pro gaming, PC gaming is awesome. That's where it all started to. First Person Shooters on the PC are crazy. I remember the Unreal Tourney days. Those were awesome. Halo is a nice area. As much as I don't like the game, the game does require a fair amount of skill to be successful online. That's where the real money is at.

It's really something you have to practice at hours on end. I don't know if anyone remembers that one episode of MTV True Life and the guy being a professional gamer. It wasn't the one with the girl and stuff but he was in the unreal tourney. He practiced 8 hours a day. 8 HOURS! It just gets really competitive especially when you want the big money and not just the minute petty money.

Awww, PC games.
Those were the days.

The local 'internet cafe' by me held so many CS:S and BF1942 tourney's.

Yeah, but with the new Quake and Unreal Tourney coming out, that's where the chunk of the loot is. Some really nice cheques coming in your way if you win some of those tourneys but chance are slim considering most of the big contests have world ranked players.

Yeah, and sadly I don't think anything will be going on at the place anymore. It somehow came up, and I guess my buddy heard someone came in and downloaded viruses on the computers, so they're closing. :p

Yeahh, I know a pro-gamer in real life as well. He took forever to tell me that he was becuase he was scared of how I would react because he didn't know that I loved video games. He was pro for Halo2 and now wants to go pro again for Halo3. Actually, I think he's at a Scion Halo 3 tournament right now.

Going pro is something you need to be committed too. I was offered a fully payed sponsorship to play halo2 professionally but it came down to being a pro or having a girlfriend. So I choose the girlfriend which we both have said I should have taken the sponsorship and gone pro instead of just getting asked all the time and doing nothing about it. In halo2 I beat every pro except for Ogre 1 and 2, and Danford. I wasn't real liked because I loved MM and was an unknown destroying there ego. Take Defy for instance, he "had the best BR" when I played. I out br'ed him when he got the first 2 shots on me. If you wanna go pro you need to go to local tourney's and just destroy, then if you ever see someone you recognize play with them and do really good. Then Go to an MLG and place really high. If you want to have a life and relationships then I would suggest not trying to go pro because it's gonna be hard to keep your team happy as well as your gf. You can always go to the events and just play with a team so you don't have to take it so serious. Being a Pro gamer will put major stress on your life and video games.

Pro gaming offers the same choice that your local gang does: either your with us....or your not. I know a few guys that do it professionally and they compare it to working as a trader on the Stock Market floor. You forget how to enjoy the games because they become work.

Remember kids, LIVE doesn't mean anything.

You can only brag if you play people on LAN.
