If you plug in your controller you should have a little bubble pop up saying 'New Hardware found' and eventually you might be asked to download drivers/whatever from the internet. I plugged mine into a PC a while back and got as far as the downloading part, so anything after that is a mystery.

I plugged it in and the bubble didn't feel like popping up. It usually does for all the other hardware I've installed. Oh well. I found the driver online.

Taken from Xbox.com

Connect Your Controller to PC

Xbox 360 Controller software for Windows enables the Xbox 360 Controller to work with a Windows XP–based PC. To download the software, go to www.windowsgaming.com (http://www.windowsgaming.com/). You must first install the software, then connect the Xbox 360 Controller to your computer's USB port.

After installing the Xbox 360 Controller for Windows software and connecting your controller to your computer's USB port, you can verify that the controller is working by selecting Game Controllers from the Windows Controller panel. See your game manual to determine whether your specific game works with the Xbox 360 Controller.

EDIT: I need to learn to read. I didn't notice you already soled your problem.

Regardless, since the problem's been solved I'll give the thread the ol' lockdown.
