Do you find yourself playing the games solely for the achievements or for the love of the game?

Lets see I buy a game that costs me $100 AUS. Then I go screw the game I am just in it for the achivements. Now thats sarcasm, I buy a game for the game not for the achivement itself.

well there is no choice for 50/50 like playing for achievements and the game. cause i know i have played some games that if they didn't have achievements i would not have played them, i like the games more then achievements thats for sure .. achievements are there only to make me play more of that game .. i know back before achievements came along i would play a game, beat it and not really play it after that.. but since achievements came along i find myself paying alot of a game even after i beat it .. case in point i beat BULLETWITCH 5 friggin times .. lol and i never would have done that before .. so really achievements are a good thing and somebody really looked deep into how well they would help with game sales and rentals .. it was a great idea. so to that i say ACHIEVEMNETS RULE AND SO DO GAMES !

depends on the game really.
but i dont play games as a whole just for points that would just be ridiculous.

If I like a game i'll go for the achievements, If I don't like the game and the achievements are easy i'll go for them too. If the game is crap and the achievements are ridiculous (ahum Quake 4) i'll cry and be ashamed that I bought such a bad game.

Normally I just play what I like, I don't buy games for the achievements (except for NBA and NHL 2K6, both for 10 euro).

When I buy games it's not for the achievements but when I rent them it's for achievements.

I go for the type of games i like and when playing through the game gets you achievements, its just a bonus.

Why is this a Top 5? Seems a bit weird even for I =o

I play games for the story, but if the story is crap/non-existant then it is achievements all the way. Occasionally there is a good mix between the two, so you get to play through a decent story but also get some points along the way.

it depends on the game

Obviously when i buy a game, i'm buying it to play the game. If i like the game and enjoyed it, then i'll try and grab the achievements.

i play for the game and the achievements but if i have all the achievements for a game i stop playing except for when i get all the achievements for Halo 3 i will still play it

CrazyFaucker
10-14-2007, 10:54 PM
Achievements all the way. I never would have sat through the entire King Kong game (twice because the game glitched and I had to start over) if it wasn't for the achievement points. But if I enjoy a game then yea, I'll definitely go back and play through it again or hit up some multiplayer when I have a craving for it.

wtf spam lol? but i buy for the games and rent for the Achievements

Some games I play for the Achievements, and some games I play just to get easy Achievements. I tend to play games that I'll enjoy more than games that are an easy 1,000. But for any game, Achievements make the game even better.

I was wondering the same thing as to why this would be in the Top 5 Lists forum. :p

There needs to be more options in this poll. I play the games I really like because I love them, such as skate and Guitar Hero, there's many of other games however I only carry on playing because I want the achievements.

I buy games I love and I don't care how bad or good the achievment points are.

I only rent games that are easy achievements points.

For the games. Didn't spend £280 on a console and about another £200 on games just for points, lol it would be ridiculous ;)

I get the game for the game. For the fun of it.

Achievements to me is an afterthought. I got many games I like, even though there are plenty of games with easier achievements to get. I didn't buy them, nor do I plan to.

The Wii has no achievements. Nor do any of the older systems. Why do people keep playing them?

I would go as far as to say that focusing on achievements could kill the game.

50/50...if I buy it, I but it for the game, but most rentals are decided on with achievements in mind. Games like R6V, H3 or the Orange Box are definitely for the game, while crap like Bionicle Heroes are purely for the achievements.

i go through stages, this last few weeks ive been mainly about points, but last night, i kinda got bored of whoring it so i just sat back and played for fun with no intention of gaining points (which is lucky as i didnt get any)

I play for the game. I do check what the achievement was once I unlock it. I also see what the achievements are. But, I do mostly just play for the game. If, one of my friends are racing me I will then rent a game from gamefly like a cheesy game for kids or something. Only, if one of my friends race me. But, I do mostly play the game for the game and have fun. Why, would i pay $60 for achievements lol.

Most of the time achievments, I've rented games that I never would've played before just to get the points. But I do play games that I enjoy, even if the achievements are hard.

i see myself buying games i want to play because of the game or story behind it the achivements are a plus. ill rent games tho for achivements if there easy and im still waiting on a game i want to play haha

10-28-2007, 03:41 PM
to be honest , i play mostly for achievements - games like king kong for example i didnt enjoy but wanted 1000 . I do also play games no matter how hard they are if i really like em , even if i max out the gamerscore from the game im gonna keep playing games like Pro2008 , SvR games , Halo and Gears are just my personal favourites

I'll play the game for fun, then if I enjoyed it or just feel like accomplishing something or setting a goal in a game...i'll play for the points. But playing for the game or the points either way..no one can say they don't do the peter griffin "Yeah!" when they get that achievement unlocked message+ sound.

truthfully little bit of both but i love achievements .. The games I do buy, I buy to play but I rent the games for them achievements.

Depends. If it's a shooter game that I like and it has online i'll play for both. If I got it from gamefly and it sucks I'll just go for the achievements. Yeah it pretty much goes like that haha.

11-20-2007, 05:51 AM
It all depends on the game. If it is SKATE i play it for the game. But if it is something like TMNT i will play that just for the achievements/ gamerscore.

for me its a 50/50

there are some games i play solely for the achievements........2k6 baby

but when its a game i really enjoy the achievements are a bonus, like halo 3 and bioshock.

02-26-2008, 10:32 PM
I play for the game. Its still fun to get achievements and whatnot, but I mainly play for the game. And why is this in the top 5 forum? Wouldn't it be better suited for the games forum?

Matrarch
02-26-2008, 10:36 PM
I definitely by games for the game primarily. The achievements were definitely a large factor in my getting an XBox, but as you can tell from my lowly gamerscore, I don't go out of my way to perfect the games I own in terms of achievements.

SillyRabbit
02-26-2008, 10:48 PM
Although the achievements are good to have and they draw a gamer in, gaming is what we started doing what we love. The achievements are a side thing but the actual game is the part that the player gets most success out of. This obviously my opinion but I think some can agree.

Games > achievements. Achievements certain add longevity to games, but I'm not going to force myself to play through a game I don't like just to raise my gamerscore.

It really all depends. I just got TMNT for the achievements but, I get most of them for the game.

02-27-2008, 03:26 PM
I depends..
I have bought a handfull of games just for the Achievement points...
Most of the time its just about enjoying the games
I try to get as many avhievements out of every game as i can though

More for the game but I always borrow games from my friend for the achievements. Example Call of Duty 3, horrid game since I already beat 4.

Half n half really, if I see some cheap game e.g for king kong ill buy it for the achievements but if it's a great game (e.g DMC4) but has solid achievements ill still buy it.

I play primarily play for games. I don't get crappy games for the sake of achievements. Enjoying the game is my priority. Getting the achievements is second.

It has to be games, i've had my fun with achievements i think thats what made me and my brother play a lot more various games. Microsoft definently set of a good craze for collectors... I think its back to First Person Shooters online like the xbox/ps2 days :)

I love the game for the GAME, its what I bought it for, to relax and enjoy every bit of it. Don' get me wrong, it OK to go achievement whoring every now and then.

Just don't do it on games like Halo 3, I hate matchmaking on lone wolves because people tell you to cooperate with them. I paid for it:mad:, FU. Headshot:uzi:

Game easily. I just go for the achievements once im done with it. Unless its for multiplayer. Thats the only reason played gears was for those achievements. Call of Duty has none but everyone plays it cause its great. Just saying

And why is this is top 5 lists?

I dont buy games for points, but if ive bought a really bad game (like Test Drive) Ill still try to get the easy achievements.

i buy the game for the game. if i want the easy gamerpoints then i will borrow it off somebody or rent it. no point in buying agem just for gamerpoints.

its a waste of money

Well, I usually go for both. I try to find fun games that would have easyish achievements. Like Halo 3 and skate., I got the games, and then saw the achievements. I decided that I wanted to get the full 1000, and did. But Avatar, I just rented it for the achievements just because it was so easy!

Depends on the game but I would never pass up a good game just because it had hard achievements

P.S. I own Devil May Cry 4

When good games are out that I like I play it's for the whole experience that the game offers and when it's dry and nothing is out I play games that I wouldn't normally play for the points. Having said that I have found myself liking many games because of the points that I normally wouldn't have even looked at like Viva Pinata, Bionicle and Lego Starwars. So I guess that's a good thing right?

if the game is crap then i dont bother with it.
