All you guys who already have this game - is it any good? The graphics may not be the highest quality and Ron Perlman's voice acting sounds like he was having a cup of coffee and yawning when reading the lines. But other than that? How's the combat, button smashing or do you actually have to/can use different attacks and moves often?

It's no God of War but I like it a lot.. the graphics are more like on the PS2.

You can play through the game by simply pressing X all the time but you can do actually many different combos and moves with the other buttons and other weapons (dual, shield, two-handed).

It is a lot of fun to kill the enemies with all the differenz possibilities.. head off, arms off, divided in the middle..

If you don't get sick by much blood and boobies you will like the game ;)

Sounds like a good fun. I'll have to try this one out when it comes out in my neck of the woods. What is the achievement difficulty like?

hoochli

I think the hardest achievements are the two playthroughs on hard and king mode.

The other achievements.. well, you have to play a few levels a couple of time to get enough kills in the different ways. They are not that hard but very time consuming.

I think I'm going to get rid of Halo 3 and get this when it comes out. I'm thinking about it though. Played the demo, it was an ok beat em up type game.

The demo was OK, I would have liked it more if the game would have been little more darker, but I'm gonna get it anyway. Only thign I didn't really like was those repetitive and stupid one-liners Conan keeps saying as he chops people.

My first impressions (3 hours into the game): Good game so far. The fighting system is good (better than God of War IMO, even though that's not saying much) parry kills are very satisfying, the game looks ok, and I like the gore. Bottom line: Conan is FUN.

Normal difficulty is not very challenging as for now, I hope Hard and Master modes will be tighter. It's a bit of a God Of War ripoff, though, especially the stage in the City of Shem which plays exactly the same as the beginning of GOW1 and 2. The game is very linear, and it's all about fighting: there are a few simplistic puzzles and embryonic platform sequences, but the game is a pure beat'em all (or rather dismember'em all).

My major gripe with the game is that it's not very "epic" so far... The game is faithful to the Conan universe, but it's simply not as spectacular or epic as God of War, Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden Black (best game ever BTW). It's more like Double Dragon with a modern fighting system: you proceed through narrow corridors, enemies appear, you kill them, another corridor, you reach an arena, bigger enemies, beat them, proceed, meet the boss, hit him 150 times with your sword, perform a little QTE to finish him and that's it. Don't get me wrong, the game is good so far, but it feels a little "cheap".

OMG, were you sober when you played God of War!!

Sorry, but this Conan game (demo) does not even belong in the same paragraph God of War.

I agree with most of your acessment of the demo, but the fighting system in God of War is engaging, furious and spectacular, especially the finishing moves. Nothing I saw in the Conan demo came even close to "fun fighting".

I loved God of War...but I don't think the fighting system was anything to write home about.

I won't go that far that Conan's fighting system is better than God Of War's fighting system. I do agree with codedigital that God of War's fighting system isn't all that but it is superior than Conan's fighting system. At least God Of War has way more variety of cool moves than Conan.

Come on, I beat GOW1 on divinity with three moves: square square triangle, Zeus' magic and Hades army. I wanted to use the whole command list, but those extra moves and weapons just came out useless. I beat GOW2 on hard, and it was a QTE festival with nothing in-between. GOW's cool moves happen only during QTEs... Midway through Conan I have already unlocked more cool and USEFUL moves than in both God of War games combined. I'm not saying that Conan is an overall better game than GOW (far from it), but I think that Conan's fighting system is simply better.

if anyone think Conan game stole some ideas from god of war game then you're wrong. Conan game is based on book that was written in 1950s. so god of war acutally stole some ideas like monsters.

When i first saw videos of the game i thought it looked rubbish but needed sumthin new after finishing halo3 so i ordered it off the net. In the time it took to get here cause of some postal strike *grrr* I played the demo and thought OH NO GOD NO!! but wen i got it i was actually surprised that was an alrite game :) If u have nothing else to play then u mite as well get it lol I didnt rly like the graphics that much but i guess u dont notice wen u play and the voice acting is annoying and the one liners he comes out with are equaly as bad lol It does copy GOW alot like the boss battles and sudden button presses but i dont think its better although the moves in conan are quite good and theres quite alot of ways to kill people which is fun lol I finished it just now after 10hrs on normal difficulty and normal was just rite i think for beginners although the last boss will annoy u big time lol and theres a few jumping bits that are annoyin cause conan cant jump at all *grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr* Anyways I managed to get 37 out of the 49 achievements on one play through so its not to hard to get them and i went bk and did the first level to get the untouchable which was easy :) My advice if your going for the achievements is to get the parry kills as early as possible because the later enemies are alot harder to parry counter. So work on that first "basically kill everyone with parry till u get it to start with" :) The grapple and death fall can be done on the squid boss so thats easy just takes a lil while :) But yeh not sure ill play it anymore cause i think king mode is gonna be way to hard lol So if you like GOW id get it cause its similar in alot of ways :)

If PS2 graphics could display graphics of that quality, then yeah it's more like PS2 ;)

Have you tried the demo yet Jabi? Personally, I've only played the demo but I thought it was pretty sweet. It's mindless barbaric stuff (duh) but it's great. I enjoyed the demo so I'm definitely going to rent it.

I tried the demo and really liked it. sure, the game is a bit one dimensional, but I like blood, boobies, and dismemberment. They got me hook line and sinker.

I played the demo on both the 360 and the PS3. The graphics are the same and I have to agree that the hack and slash isn't as engaging as GOW or Heavenly Sword. I would say a rental and a year from now a definite discount purchase if you have to have this game.

I've found the demo to actually be quite fun. It's really nothing great but the sheer variety of ways you have to dismember your enemies just makes it more fun. I think it'll make for a fun rental. I'm not looking for a challenge just a casual blood letting good time.

Saints Row? Are you drunk right now?:drunk:confused:

How does saints row have any comparison to conan.
(((looks at game while playing to make the comparison, but still fails to see it)) can i jack a cyclops or something? mabe do a drive by and shoot up some ghosts hustling at the corner volcano?
((tries to jack a stone statue but gets f-ed up bad))
Maybe i have to find the underwater recording studio where the pimp squid is at... gonna try that now...
:p :p :p :p :p :p
Update: No pimp squid :( lolz

Starts off great, really enjoyed the majority of the game, but last level and final boss suck big time!
Rent don't buy for an enjoyable 500 (ish) anything more is just tedious.
Last boss made me so angry thought i was gonna burst a blood vessel

Agreed... I "loved" it when he spawned 10 zombies around me and threw his tentacles, which pass right THROUGH the zombies and cannot be blocked... That must be the cheapest boss move ever.

I kind of get this, and it kinda works. I am not a big fan of GTA but like Saints Row. I never finished GOW but am loving Conan right now, the brutality has me hooked. GOW was IMO over the top, kill a God and become one, gimme a break... gimme 1 bad mofo who can smack down some fools plz. Besides: Achievements>No Achievements, that's why we all are here anyway.

It's a great game, rent it for a week or 2 though. I got it as a gift, I'd rather have Orange Box or even better hold out for COD4. Really so amny good games comming out this winter. I can't wait till it's over and see how the GOTY works out. My money is on Bioshock because it's different and innovated, though COD4 looks like the best game ever and the multiplayer is awesome, Mass Effect may be cool if it can deliver but to get what they are promising they better have started making it 10 years ago.

Only thign I didn't really like was those repetitive and stupid one-liners Conan keeps saying as he chops people.More darker? Dewd... there's more blood and guts in this game than any other game I have played. You literally severe guys in two and see their entrails flail in the wind as they fall down. You chop guys arms off, their heads, and kill them in so many ways it's not funny. I don't know how much darker you can get. Add to that the storyline with the ominous overtones and the evil sorcerer who was imprisoned in the bowels of the earth, and the story isn't exactly light.

If you grew up with the Conan comics (Savage Sword, King Conan, etc...) then you are absolutely going to love this game. It's God of War ala Conan and there ain't nothing wrong with that. God of War was an excellent game, and Conan is excellent source material.

Yeah I know that alot of people aren't going to play it b/c of it being compared to Gow but if you like the god of war engine and like hardcore brutality than this is the game for you. I love it so far although some of it is hard. It'll be fun unlocking all the achievements and i love that you can buy moves and then "master" them. The only part I'm not liking is all the bashing of the final boss, haven't gotten there but doesn't sound fun :P

Devolon
10-26-2007, 12:39 PM
Most bossfights in this game aren't that fun, actually, but the final boss is a pain in the ass. Beware of the final QTE at the end of the fight: if you fail, you'll have to restart at the last checkpoint.

This game would have been much better if the enemy AI wasn't so frustrating and bipolar.

Besides the master all moves achievements, there really doesn't seem to be much of a point to learning new skills. Most of the enemies constantly block the hell out of every attack you do unless you keep mashing on the heavy attack and hope they don't gang bang you to death if you're caught in between a group of them.

On medium difficulty its frustrating enough, I would guess on anything higher than that you'd just want to punch yourself in the face. Basically its not really challenging in a fun way, it's more frustrating and cheap.

When playing Hard and King, you can enable those "cheats" that you earn after completing the game on different difficulties, these make even King mode easy. Just keep using Rain of Fire and you have no problems, except in the bosses.

Wrong:
1 - Learn how to steal the enemy's weapons and shields. If a guy is bothering you with his spiky shield or whatever, take it from his hands and decapitate him with it for good measure.
2 - Parry kills.
3 - When you master a move, you gain a bonus: every time you kill an enemy with that move, you'll get a certain amount of orbs. The more complex the attack is, the more green/blue orbs you'll get. But if you use the move too much, the bonus disappears, so you need to use a wider range of attacks.

I love the game always been a huge conan fan anyway so was a no brainer for me to buy it and I got the chessy statue lol. As far as replay value is very low as you will get tired quickly of the old hack & slash. Some type of multiplayer would of been pretty cool.

I like it, the fighting system is surprisingly deep and it's fun chopping people into little chunks.
They should have made it so your stats could carry over to your next new game to make the achievements a bit less awkward to get but it's cool.
