Now typically I don't care about any sport that doesn't start with "base" and end with "ball". But if I'd ever consider going to see a basketball game you'd damn well guarantee after last night it would never be a game played by LeBron James.
Why am I so upset and pissed off you say... in case you missed it LeBron, a Cleveland born star basketball player, who plays for his hometome Cleveland Cavaliers, showed up to the first Cleveland Indians play-off game in seven years dressed in Yankee gear. Then once the Yankees started to lose he turned his hat around (action done in hopes of a rally for your team). Now granted he may have grown up a Yankees fans, and doesn't like the Indians but it's a slap in the face to all the Cleveland fans that support him and the Cavaliers to show up dressed like that... and yes this opinion may be weighted on my part due to the fact that I'm a RedSox fan.

Sounds to me like your just being a whiner about it...lol...honestly why does it matter? Just because he's famous? I mean honestly, I have a Yankees cap, but I don't like the Yankees, I'm a White Sox fan. If I were to go to another Sox game, I may where the Yankees Cap, just depends on what I'm wearing and if I throw on the cap...

Yea I mix and match my outfits with my hats.
That is kinda messed up that he didn't support Cleveland but if that is the team he likes, let him.
im with Wreckon. If you grow up in Cleveland, play Basketball for Cleveland, you like the Indians....fucking judas.

that makes no sense. you are not a real fan then... :(
i would NEVER wear a yankees, sox, tigers or any other hat to a twins game. EVER.
isnt this kind of like working at pizza hut and showing up eating dominos? his job is playing for a cleveland team. if you are not going to cheer FOR them, at least dont cheer AGAINST them. not cool. (keep it to yourself, lebron.)

I have a yankees cap because, well, everyone has one....plus it's all camo'ed out and shit....looks badass...they didn't have a Sox one so I got that one...it looks cool ok...

i would rather wear a pink and purple polka-dot glow in the dark twins cap, than a yankees camo one. [everyone does not have one. at least not me.] but i am considered a "die hard", so it is what it is... at least you're not a red sox fan, wearing yankee stuff. that would be unheard of.

I have 5 hats, all variations of the Yankees, because I was brainwashed at an early age to cheer for NY. They're my team, and that's who I'll always wear.
It just shows how fads are taking over. LeBron has one because everyone else has one. lol.
It doesn't seem like a big deal to me. :(

People take sports WAY to seriously, who cares if he is a Yankees fan.

first off, yes. i probably do. ;)
but, it is not the fact that he is a yankees fan that is wrong. it is the fact that he works/plays for a cleveland team and went out of his way to show that he is against them in this series. he could've just showed up in a $10,000 suit and cheered for the yankees--people would not have noticed as much then. but he had to put on the yankees gear AND try the whole rally-cap bit in his "hometown".

Well we can't hate him for who he cheers for.
The gear thing was def not need. It was also blown out of proportion.

It was also blown out of proportion.
yeah. that is the other thing. the media sees this as a quick way to grab some attention, so they will naturally jump all over it as much as they can while people actually still care.

Yea just give it some time and when Lebron gets back on the court it will be all better.
I still think it was wrong for him to do that.

What lebron did was definitely bad taste. You would think that with all the money he makes from endorsements alone, he could have hired someone to tell him that.

I was watching it and could not belive what he did. It is one thing to be a fan but to publicly go out and display it against your hometown. Also with his association with the Cavaliers it really was not the right thing to do.

I'd rather him be himself than lie and say he's just there to watch the game. He's a person he's allowed to be a fan too. Also the fans in Cleveland can't be too mad since he's their only hope of winning games. Its not a big deal.

alright while you guys are all talking about not wanting to wear the cap because you don't like the team. If i put on a Yankee's hat and walk down the local Ghetto i will get shot. I live near Boston and it is almost a criminal offense to like the Yankee's. Some kid in my school got sent to the Hospital for wearing a Yankee's jersey. But LeBron needs to wear Indians gear. It is showing the Cleveland fans that he really doesn't care about Cleveland and would like to be somewhere else. That affect the Cavilers.

I can tell you now I don't have a damn thing with Yankees on it. So everyone doesn't. I have 29 pennants... you know which one is missing. I'd die before putting on pinstripes.
On a side not how great was tonights game... $300 million dollars and they are a game away from another first round exit... priceless.

It was the flies that did Chamberlain in. Flies... ahahahahaha first it was gnats... and your in the biggest game of your life and you can't deal with some bugs. Didn't seem to bother Carmona... nine innings of 3 hit ball.
This is the Yankee's problem...
Alex Rodriguez 0-for-4 with three strikeouts tonight and is now 4-for-47 with zero RBIs in his last 14 playoff games.
$30 million do what?
They will pitch Wang on short rest instead of pitching Mussina...
$25 million do what?

You know why Lebron James supports the Yankees? Because he's on the wagon. The only people outside of NY who like the Yankees are band wagon fans or people who want to be in the "in crowd" because everyone lovesssss the yankees (very popular team in the hip hop and urban culture). That's just my opinion though. Yankees have always had a winning touch to them. Cleveland Indians on the other hand aren't as consistent as them in terms of winning. So since Lebron can hardly win with his own Cavs team, why not cheer for someone that actually does win... like the Yankees? But unfortunately, since James is cheering for them, Karma comes and slaps him a good one. 2-0 for the Indians. Ouch.

If I were LeBron, I would just attend the game without wearing any baseball apparel. I rather him wear his basketball jersey, then his Yankee gear. Granted that he is a Yankee's fan, I think it wasn't the smartest move to wear a Yankees cap.
The man is like an icon in Cleveland and he's a star. Many people can take that as an insult. In my opinion, I think it was bad for publicity.

I saw this on the news and laughed my ass off. I've hated Lebron since day 1. And no, its not because Im a Pistons fan, its because of the nickname "King James" and the number 23. Its an insult to MJ. If he is so great, the Cavs could've at lerast won one game against the Spurs in the finals.

Did you see Joba? I'd have just refused to pitch. He was swarmed with them.
And I think they said they were called Canadian soldiers.
It looks like A-Rod might actually be forced to stay in New York, though, considering how he magically becomes a Chuck Knoblauch in the playoffs.

Like I said if people are that butt hurt that he is a Yankees fan, then they need to get a life. It's a game where people are WAY over payed, and over publicized and placed on a pedestal they don't deserve. Boo hoo he isn't an Cleveland fan.

I'm torn on this with a lot of you. Shady brings up a good point that he is paid by the city of Cleveland, so he should at least have not showed up with anything on, if not an Indians cap. However, on the flip side he is a fan, and keep in mind. Lebron is still a KID!!! He may make more money in a year than I will in 10, however he is what...20-21? He is in the urban culture and is making a fashion statement. Plus he is a fan, why not let him support his team?
And like Perp said, the Yanks are an urban culture thing. Does anyone remember the song in the late 90s by Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz called Deja Vu?? They practically pioneered the idea of Yankees shit in their music video. They wore the lime green Yanks hat and after that, the explosion of Yanks shit was everywhere, with every color and design imaginable. Companies take advantage of what the average consumer is willing to buy because we are, well, impressionable. When I saw that video when I was 14ish, even though I'm a Blue Jays fan, I wanted a lime green yanks cap. Just goes to show that you don't have to be a fan to wear something...

So what if he's paid by Cleveland? LeBron knows he can do whatever he wants because the Cavs wouldn't be shit without him. and besides, it's 2 different sports.

You'll make around 10-15 million in 10 years? No you won't :p
The Yankees are the most hated and most loved team. There is probably not a single team that has so many fans and so many people that hate them from all across the world. Yankees are simply loved because they're A) a symbol in the urban and pop culture world B) They have the consistency of winning a lot.
A true sports fan is someone who will cheer for their team regardless if they're losing. 90% of the people in the world never want to cheer for a losing team. It's the same deal as peer pressure and blah blah. Everyone wants to be able to say, "Oh my team is winning."
