Living in the Seattle area, the little lime-green dot on the back of Matt Hasselbeck's helmet didnt look out of place, as lime green is one of the Seahawk's colors.

But watching mroe football today, I see that every quarterback in the leage has this little lime-green dot on the back of their helmet.

Does anyone know what it's there for?

It means it is the helmet with a mic inside of it i believe.

hmmm, that makes sense.

seems like there could be a less weird way of denoting that though...

Yeah i believe it means they have a mic in thier helmet to hear plays and such.Hope that clears things up.

my guess is that they have a dot cause a name w/ a piece of tape would look like some sloppy high school helmet. and if you have all the helmets lined up after they're cleaned/polished, it's alot easier to find the most important one out of the bunch.

No no, I mean like on a clipboard on the sidelines. If a ref suspects another player of having a microphone, he's just going to inspect it anyway, regardless of green dot.

The green dot on the back of a quarterbacks helmet means that they have the speakers in their helmet so that they can receive the play calls from the sidelines.

The dot is there so that the refs can assure that only one person with sideline communications is on the field at any given time.
