Normally I quote the story but this one tends to be long, besides you members are smart and can figure it out by the thread title. A synapses is a Jets fan is suing for $184 Million because of the Patriots cheating ways. The number is not just for a single person but for every ticket holder at Giants stadium with the calculation of "ticket price x 3" over the course of 8 "fraudulent" games. Thats every Patriots vs. Jets game at Giants stadium since 2000 (when Belichick became coach of the Patriots). All of this with the claim of compensation under the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act and the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act.
My take:
Are you freaking kidding me? I don't know how anyone in their right mind would logically believe this would stand a change in a courtroom, not be laughed at, then tossed out. This would be the same as allowing people who watched Rafael Palmero or any other positively tested athlete to sue because they also ruined the integrity of the game. How about wrestling; isn't that deceiving enough? Can I take action again the WWE because that chair didn't actually hit that wrestler and thus couldn't have been knocked out from it? Its these type of lawsuits that are frivolous, it doesn't advance society any and I believe those who bring them up (along with their attorneys) should be slapped with a fine themselves for being a complete douche and clogging up the courts.
Anyone else have thoughts on this?

You don't even know the half of it. Chips Ahoy one time was sued millions for not having exactly that many chips in every bag of cookies. You can get sued for anything and win easily now especially if there are acts like that supporting them. My law background isn't very good though. Anyways, if it's worth a try.

Being s law student, the lawyers, while a pain in the ass, are completely right with their stance and filing under the laws that were broken.
I agree that it is bogus, and in my eyes a judge should shut this down, however like i said, they hit the nail on the head with the laws they want to sue under. Consumer protection is an interesting aspect of the law. Think back to California when the dumbass put coffee from McDonald's between his legs, hit a bump while driving and it spilled...then won $100+ because the container did not say Warning: HOT. These types of lawyers piss me off and ruin it for the rest of us....
Should be interesting to see what the judges say tho....some kind of compensation may be in order...

Can the judge throw the case out?
The Pats were caught while playing against the Jets. Then that means almost everyone can sue the Pats because it would seem that they were doing this for a while. My Niners played them last year. Can I sue them for cheating too?:p

well you can certainly try to!!
lol turbo you might know this story:
about ( i think it was roughly ) 4-5 years ago, in PA some dude robbed a bank of about 200k, and during the escape pursuit, police caused him to crash into a building which made him end up in the hospital.
about 2 weeks later he filed a law suit against the city, and WON.
yeah, he won. he won a law suit settlement of almost 1MIL$.
(i realise thats off topic, but it shows you how idiotic people are, and what the hell they can get away with... unfortunately)

The judge could throw the case out, however it would be brought up to an Appellate Court in the state of NJ. The judge would have to have an excellent reason to dismiss the case.
I do remember that case in PA about the car accident. Some lawyers give us all a bad name....

I agree i think its stupid for them to try and sue them for something that seems to pop up in every single sport but never gets brought to court

Keeping it off topic, there is a similar (although fictional) case from Liar Liar, where a burglar who is breaking into someone's house falls through a skylight onto a kitchen knife, sues the homeowner for more than he would have robbed and 'justice' is served.
Lots of lawsuits sound pretty stupid, I am currently pursuing McDonalds over their Happy Meal brand as the meal does not invoke a sensation of joy nor does the meal itself have the capacity to have emotions. I think I'll win.

The supposed Jets Fan is actually a lawyer and him and his buddy came up with this suit. These two genius are notrious for bs lawsuits bascially like Jack Thompson just looking to make a quick buck and 15mins of fame. What losers!

what is the world coming to? people are so sue-happy nowadays that actual justice is no longer served in the u.s.
sometimes i wish i was President to make some seriously needed changes, starting with kicking out all the ignorant people out of the country, who think its their right to sue if things don't go their way.
anyone agree with me or am i just frustrated with the world?

This guy isn't going to get a single dime. Judge is going to throw this case away unless they can do a good job convincing him/her.

The guy who filed the lawsuit is obviously a lawyer. Class action lawsuits are completely unethical. If by some stupid reason this hypothetically went through, everyone would get chump change, while the lawyer would get anywhere from 20%-40% (what they normally take) of the total compensatory damages, which in this case, would be $184 million.

well if you figure 184 mil / 2 being generous= 92 mil divided by however many people had tickets, thats still a decent amount of money. especially if you're just a person who just had attendance at the games, and didn't even bother filing a lawsuit...
