Did anyone see what happened to him yesterday? He was going in for a tackle on the opening kickoff of the 2nd half and it ended up being head to head. He has a sever spine injury and might never walk again.

Ya, I was gonna post this yesterday but decided not to. It's crazy. His career is most likely over and as you said he may never walk again so ya. Scary moment. And it's only opening week, geez.

That was brutal... routine tackle and now he might be done for life.
They said he has "minor feeling in the extremities" and that he never lost consciousness and was talking to the EMTs and doctors all day, so that's pretty hopeful at least.

this is very sad.
reminds of that lions player (pants, you probably remember...) who did the tackle with his head, and his neck just kind of scrunched inwards. i believe he is still alive, but paralyzed from the neck down.

Ugh . . . watching that was just sickening . . . It's easy to forget how violent the game actually is.
Smokez . . . it wasn't a head to head hit at all. He went into to tackle Hixon on the return and Everett ducked his head at the last moment and actually hit him the shoulder/chest area.
Also, Mike Utley is the name of the Lions player who was paralyzed from the waste down in a hit in 1991.

Yeah, Mike Utley. The one game I got to go to last year (got season tickets now :)), they had a bunch of Lions vets and he came out in his wheelchair, all smiles. He was an amazing player and is still an amazing guy.
If you ever see Lions players giving a thumbs up, he's the reason why. When he was being taken off the field, he put his hand in the air and gave the thumbs up... so sad.

Being a Bills fan this is horrible....he is in ICU doped up on meds and has a great chance of never walking again with almost NO chance of full range of motion....so early in the season too...

Its frustrating when the reporters keep showing it over and over again...get over it and give us some news on how he's doing. they should show some respect

Sorry Smokez haha...i was trying to write a paper and ESPN was on my tv....so the paper wasn't going to well lol...
They must have showed the clip 5-6 straight times....enough is enough already....it's disheartening to watch an Interview of JP Losman and Brian Moorman where they both looked as if they were going to cry...

That's such a tragedy. I remember watching Kevin playing with Frank Gore in University of Miami. He was a pretty good player. It's a shame for the buffalo bills to loose a good person. I just hope the NFL steps up and pays for all his hospital bills. We see what they been doing to the retired players.

ESPN is now reporting that a doctor has visted when Everett and said he now has voluntery movement and is optimistic that he will walk again. Time will tell, but its sad when someone goes down like that; I don't care what team you're on.

The doctor is from some miami organization that is actually looking for a cure for paralysis, and they think (this is what i heard earlier) is that they might be able to help him. probably not to the point where he could play again but at least he'd be able to walk. i'm hoping for the best.

Actually on SportsCenter last night they said his doctor has said now that as far as him being able to walk again, it's a question of 'when' and not 'if', so that's good news. Still, I'd be shocked if the guy played pro football ever again.
It was interesting to hear how the doctor prevented paralysis from the guy from the University of Miami. Who would have thought that inducing hypothermia with prevent permanent paralysis or that body temperature has anything to do with how much or little damage there is to the spinal column in such injuries. Pretty fascinating stuff.

It is just sad to see. Especially since it wasn't anything different or abnormal. Just a routine tackle. My heart goes out to the guy and I hope for the best for him.

Possibly it has something to do with slowing the blood flow down by so much to that particular injured area; I'm not sure. It is very interesting and something I've never heard of before. Like you I'm not sure if he'll ever be able to play football again or if he may want to after this has happened, but any possibility of recovery is better than the outlook established Monday.

i was watching mike and mike and that's exactly what they did... i guess they put a catheter in him within like 15 minutes that cooled down the blood... kind of like puttin ice on a sore spot. i guess they did it just after they got him off the field.

I heard today that he can move almost anything and is even talking now. This is pretty amazing. Who knows if he'll play football, but I'm sure that is the last thing he and his family cares about now. It's practically a miracle.

I hope you're right because I've been wishing him the best. To here the doctor say that he was going to be paralyzed from the neck down was really shocking. I'm still wishing him the best.
