View Full Version : Colts destroyed Saints. Think they can do that all year?

Just wanted to see if people think the Colts can destroy teams all year like they did against the Saints tonight? I don't like the Colts and don't wanna see them in the Super Bowl again, but if Peyton and everyone else play like that all year, I can see a repeat this year. What'd you guys/gals think?
P.S. Colts defense look WAYYYYYYYY better this year compared to last years.

I don't think they can keep it up like THAT. that was getting a little outta hand. They're the Colts, they will be a good team, probably 12-13 wins (i'm not a colts fan either...), and back to the playoffs. I'd like to think they won't make it past the AFC championship game (Read: Hope). One thing i will say... Peyton is definitely not overrated. He's going to break records some day if he stays healthy.

This was pretty much what I expected from the colts but, not the saints. I figured this would be a 65-70 point game between the 2 teams. The colts made the saints secondary look like turnstiles out there. However, I don't see the Colts put putting up 41 pts week in, week out based on their upcoming schedule. They are playing some of the best defenses in the leagues this year. In looking at their schedule, they have the bears, chargers, jags, ravens, pats, and raiders. I expect Peyton to have big games but not every week.

Poor Jason David, he almost redeemed himself with the forced fumble returned for a TD, but man oh man Peyton ripped into him after that.
The number one reason Colts defense was the way it was, Bob Sanders was healthy and making plays. The number two reason, Rookies stepping up and filling big shoes. Franky Keiaho is the god damn man!
For the next 6 games Colts have a pretty easy schedule, look for them to dominate. After which, they won't be as dominant but look for them to make a strong playoff presence this year again.

All i can say is....F*CK peyton manning.
Seriously tho, i turned this game off after they scored for the third time in the 4th quarter. I dont know what happened to my boys, they just couldnt defend mannings passes. They were playing extremely poor man coverage and it just didnt work. Bush and McAllister were getting some yardage but it wasnt enough. We've got a lot of work to do before the next game if we plan on taking it to playoffs this year.

I'm not ready to say it was all the Colts. I was sadly surprised at how terrible the Saints offense played. Their formations didn't look right, they weren't running patterns right, it was just blah all around. Granted though the Colts defense did look great against the run compared to early/mid-season last year. I still see the Saints getting things together and hopefully taking their division. The Colts biggest challenge will be New England, if they can get by them then they'll return to the Super Bowl but only time will tell.

Lets not forget that it was... well the Saints. I think people had high hopes for them after last years performance.. and who could blame you I thought the same thing. They just seem to have fallen into that usual Saints nitch they always do. Uninspired football.
Sure the Colts D looked great against the run game... but again it's the Saints.
I'm not convinced till I see them play a team that can really challenge them.

And, so what if it's the Saints? Did you not see how far they got last year? They only lost to the Bears because they were outta their element cuz they were outside and it's was snowing. They could be a much better team though. Drew Brees is a good quaterback and the combination of Bush and McCallister can just be dominating.

I thought it was a pretty sloppy game all around. I was expecting to be close but, due to sloppy play on the Saints' part, it became a blowout.
As for if they can keep it up throughout the year, I don't think so but it could be really close to a dominating performance, depending on which teams they're playing. I wouldn't mind seeing them in the SB again but I certainly wouldn't want them to win it all.
Sucks that I had Drew Brees in at starting QB in my fantasy league. :(

So Reggie Bush and Deuce McAllister aren't quality running backs? Come on, get with it. Colts Defense shut down the run all night, held them to an average of about 3 yards a carry.

Ya, and that's a HUGE improvment from last year. Last team in the league at run defense? Correct? But, I don't wanna see them in the SB again. I don't want this to be another Patriots run. I hate it when the same team wins the championship over and over again.
The number one reason Colts defense was the way it was, Bob Sanders was healthy and making plays. The number two reason, Rookies stepping up and filling big shoes. Franky Keiaho is the god damn man! Yep. The only thing bad about Bob Sanders is his name. He could have picked anything he wanted (his birth name was too long so he and his mother "picked" a new one) and he chose Bob. Too plain. Not NFL character material. Just like John David Booty. Don't draft him.
But seriously, the Saints are going to be the fantasy destroyers this year. Drew Brees's (This is the correct punctuation. You can say Saints' because it is plural, but Brees is one man.) 192 yards, 0 TD's, and 2 picks is quite a far cry from his monster 510 yard performance last year. Bush and McAllister had a pitiful 38 rushing yards each, both without a score. The emotional ride is over people, the Saints suck again. The Colts were basically playing the same mediocre and underachieving team they play at least six times a year in the Jags, Titans, and Texans.

Don't worry, I really feel the Broncos have become the elite team in the NFL this year. Just consider their defense.
At corner they've got Champ Bailey, who has the ball thrown to his receiver roughly 6 times a game and with almost no success, and Dre Bly, who is certainly an above average cornerback who will turn into a pick machine when playing against teams without great depth and wide receiver (buh-bye, San Diego). Apparently there's also a stud playing behind them, too. They're run defense is always phenomenal, and this year they can probably have enough players to start only backups on the line and still be a shutdown team. Only teams with an excellent number three receiver (Indy's Gonzalez, though they can probably handle him in his rookie year; Cincy after week 8 when they get Chris Henry back) and two very good running backs (Jags) can even make it competitive. Their offense certainly doesn't hold a candle to the league's top tier ones, but it's good enough. Travis Henry, who somehow got 1200 yards running behind the Titans' "offensive line" can very feasibly put up 1650, possibly 1800 yards running behind Denver's. That same line will also protect Cutler, with no real targets (Brandon Stokley is the only consistent one), from throwing interceptions. They'll get by with 250 yards in the air.

Alright so first of all I wasn't bashing the Saints fellas... I said right from the get go everyone expected big things from them this season, INCLUDING MYSELF. I also said that they seemed to fall into that old Saints style of uninspired football. I just didn't think they had that spark that was there last season, who knows why, and maybe it will come back but they did not look like the team they were LAST season... but more like the team from seasons before that.
Deuce and Reggie are great... but Bush is young and Deuce isn't getting any younger... plus he has never been a dazzling back, but you could blame it on the system he was in. They are a great one two punch but the Saints are not a top tier run team.
1138 said it best really.
Also gonna have to agree with him on Denver. Their Defense is something for teams to be scared of, and I can't wait till the end of this month with them playing Colts on the 30th. Baily and Bly will challenge Peyton in the secondary and lets not forget about the fierce middle of that defense with Lynch and Gold and Williams. Finally their D line just got a huge boost in the signing of Simeon Rice on Monday.
This year will be interesting in the AFC... :drunk

I think this just shows how much catching up the NFC as to do right now. You can have a top scoring offense but get shutdown come playoff time by talented defensive teams. The top 5-6 teams this year will very likely be from the AFC w/ the exception of maybe the Bears. The colts, ravens, chargers, patriots, and steelers would be a pretty big match up for any NFC team in the playoffs. I'll hold my opinion on the Broncos b/c I'd like to see how Cutler develops this year. I'm not taking anything away from the Saints offense but its hard to win when you can't stop the other team either.

As much as I love the Colts, Its way to early to tell, I herd the cardinals are pretty good this year, and so are the Steelers.
I herd the cardinals are pretty good this year.Yep. They're a lock for a "pretty good" draft pick. They're awful. They've always been awful. They'll always be awful.
Get over it.

It's a little to early to say. I'd give the Colts a good shot at the Super Bowl, but there's so much competition in the NFL it's hard to say. Go Chargers!

The Colts are just way better then the Saints, yet the Saints have a better chance of making the Super Bowl, weird huh? The Patriots are too dominant, and will beat the Colts. Also don't forget about my Chargers. They're better then the Colts too.

Well, the Saints are locked in the NFC and a lot of people favor them to be the NFC team that makes it to the Super Bowl, where as the Colts are in the AFC and that's a whole different story.
The AFC is full of power-house contenders. The 3 you just named are very good teams. The Colts, Patriots, and Chargers. Don't get ahead of yourself now by saying that the Patriots and Chargers will beat the Colts.
What we saw against the Saints, was a fast, hard-hitting Defense by the Colts. Reggie and Deuce are more than well qualified Backs and they were both stuffed throughout the whole game. Now, even without a potent Defense, the Colts can light it up any week with their Offense. They can easily score 20-30 points a game.
I'm not a Indianapolis Colts fan, but I'm just speaking the truth. Everyone knows that the Colts are the defending Super Bowl Champions with a great chance of doing the same this year.
P.S. To YoYo, your Chargers were the ONLY team not to sign a Free Agent during the Off-Season. Since you stole Norv Turner away from my Niners, I wish him and the Chargers the best of luck.

Did you SEE BIG BEN? Oh my god. I wouldn't even complain if I were you. My raiders lost AGAIN and to the lions of all people. Ben threw 4 TDs. That's extremely good.

Yeah..no. Patriots have improved their offense greatly, but the Colts had a major overhaul on their defense. I think they'll beat the Pats again. As for the Chargers... we'll see. LT played like crap against the bears.

stepping into this thread a little late, but... i have said it from the get go (hence the reason i have avoided brees, bush, mccallister, colston and co. in fantasy football like the plague) : last year for the saints was a fluke. it was a combination of an easy schedule, a lot of national support and attention, momentum, great attitude and assitance from god. :p
brees is an average qb. hate on me all you want. if he puts up 4000+ again and has more tds than ints, i will START TO believe in him. it was a fluke, and also the easy schedule and new defenses who have never seen him.
bush is amazing. so quick. can run, can catch, can probably throw too. but, he needs to be the feature back. mccallister needs to become a backup. this whole lighting-thunder idea only works for teams when there is actually thunder. both of these backs are in between the two. neither one can ever get into a groove, because they are constantly getting subbed out.
and the defense... i do not even need to talk about. SAD.

Manning is gonna shut down teams all year, I think he's just too good to be messed with, I can't wait for the AFC Championship repeat though Manning vs Brady, what a game that's gonna be.

YEAH. I can't wait to see how many spies the Patriots hire this time around, to make sure they actually beat Manning this year...

Man, did you watch the Colt Vs. Titans game today? That was a damn close game. Indy got so lucky they didn't lose that one. Hmmm maybe the Colts aren't as strong as we all think they are......

Well apparently not they only skimmed by the the Titans today and Manning i think had 1 TD and 1 INT very uncharacteristic. Lets see what next week brings. He usually follows a bad performance with and awe inspiring one.
