fighting ''special'' enemys

everytime when I fight special enemys I have problems killing them (those enemys you have to kill with a killing move) how do you get enough energy to perform a killing move?
please someone help/explain

Just attack them a few times using a "sword, sword, punch" combo and your special meter will go up.

Also if your having problems blocking thier attacks, hit pause. You can pause it an if you have to block down, hold down and unpause. You can do the whole fight with out getting hit once.
