Unbelievable. Unthinkable. Embarrassing. Division I-AA Appalachian State pulls one of the greatest upsets in history by blocking a late FG attempt from No. 5 Michigan to win 34-32.
Nice job Michigan. GO BUCKS!!!

Michigan has become such a pathetic state for sports. Pistons have been lazy, Wings have been lazy, Tigers have been lazy, Lions just continually suck and now Michigan loses to fucking Appalachian State? Biggest fluke in recent memory, but it just ruined their entire season in the first game, which they only scheduled against this team to crush and give them a morale boost. Irony, indeed.
Kill me now.

Yeah yeah.. we'll see how it goes. Maybe they'll be so embarrassed they'll sweep the season and make face.

They got 42 and 11 in the last 20 years. I'd say that's quite often comparatively.

I went to App. State during the summer for their Football Summer Camp, and I knew Michigan would be challenged by App. State. Michigan probably never anticipated the speed or the conditioning of App. State, and I doubt they came out seriously enough for this team. What you should realize is that the Mountaineers should NOT be in the I-AA League, as they simply dominate that league every year. They are a very good football team, and although they shouldn't beat anybody in the Top 10, they definitely have a good chance with anybody else.
But... I have never laughed so hard in all my life.

Anyway, back on topic...I CAN say that the game, like Pants said was the biggest upset within my recent memory, but there has defnately been some bigger ones, especially among Colleges and High Schools. They tend to harbor many flukes, almost like a parasite motel. (Flukes are parasitic worms...anyone, anyone? :( I won't quit my day job don't worry)
This same deal has happened a LOT in college history. I can't remember the year...but TCU was A LOT MORE unknown then they are now, and they beat a top-seed in what was supposed to be a one-sided game. UNderdogs just make college football so much more intriguing. By the way, has that Underdog movie come out and tanked yet?

The reason so many people are calling it the biggest ever is because App St is a Div IAA school... TCU is IA so they automatically expect more out of them. This was the first time a IAA team beat a team that was ranked at the time they played, so i guess i can see it, but there's too many upsets every year to call one better than the other IMO

Yea I agree. It was a great game and I was upset when they let Manningham catch that ball. I don't care for either team just like rooting for the underdog.

Sorry Pants but i'm gonna hafta call you out on the "fluke". They blocked 2 FGs in the last 2ish minutes. Plus if you remember, a WR for app st dropped a pass in the endzone when he was WIDE open, and they only wound up with 3 instead of 7 so it could have been worse. Michigan was simply unprepared and App. St. just outplayed them in my eyes. And TCU was a 1A school so like what was said, it is expected that they are at the caliber of ranked teams.
Now on to this weekend for the Penn State v. Notre Dame game. Thank god i have my student section ticket!!!!!!!!

This Michigan fiasco IS the biggest upset in college football. It would be hard to argue otherwise.
I'm not anti-Michigan or anything, I actually like the Big 10 conference. But man, what a shellac-ing. Michigan was completely unprepared to start their season and it showed.
It was kinda like last year when Montana State beat Colorado here in Boulder on the opening weekend. I-AA team beating a I-A team. Of course, Colorado only one 2 games all of last year, so hopefully that doesn't happen to Michigan.
Makes me glad I pull for LSU.

Wow, here's something i don't agree with... Michigan isn't ranked this week. they dropped over 20 spots in both polls. yes, they lost to a team they should have crushed but they are still a good team. they will still have a good year (it's michigan...) just hopefully not a good week 2

this just proves why there should not be a ranking system before any games are played. And Michigan deserves to be out of the top 25. If they were defending national champs and were ranked #1 preseason and lost, i would still be lobbying for them to be unranked. A loss like that just threw any chance of a BCS bowl game out the window for them...

Looks like Michigan season is truely screwed now. I hope i'm wrong though, nothing would be better for my ducks than to have the wolverines win the big 10 championship.

I bet they're going to be looking for a rock to crawl under once all the other college games end and the highlights of the day begins.
