2-player Co-Op?

So in the game description it says it the collection can be played in Co-Op. I haven't tried the other Monster World games yet, but I tried the first "Wonder Boy in Monsterland" and I coulndt get the Co-Op to work.

On the screen it says "Join" on Player Two, and I tried but it doesnt work. Does anyone know anything about this?
