Little Sister Question

Am playing through Bioshock, and want to make sure I dont miss any little sisters.

Obviously on the bottom of the pause screen it tells me how many are remaining in each area.

But, is each area counted as the place where the bathysphere goes? Ie if I go to a level with bathysphere and get out, press start and have all the little sisters then there arent anymore anywhere through doors or in sublevels?

I think each level that's on the submarine is different. Just press pause everytime you go to a new area and make sure you have them. At first it confused me but if the little circle has a picture of a big daddy/little sister than she hasn't been rescued/harvested but if it's just the sister than you've rescued or harvested her. It will also look different if you harvest them instead of saving. Hope this helps.
