Trials confusion

Ok so does my level affect what i am capable of doing in them? since i level up doing them figured it may do so could someone confirm this?

I know i get a massive advantage in MP with more moves unlocked, damn ppl picking on me at lvl 1 with izuna drops, lol

I think you have to earn so much karma in the trials to unlock the next difficulty. Doesn't take long I've only done acoylte and mentor and I've already unlocked them all.
