View Full Version : Conrad Verner!? (some spoilers)

I was in the Docks: Holding area of the Citadel when I came across Conrad Verner.
At first, like his usual moronic self, he was trying to support Shepard in a horrible misguided way, screaming "If Cerberus is good enough for Shepard, it's good enough for us," trying to recruit for them.
I talked to him, told him to stop, and then, just to see what lolz would ensue, I asked him for help.
He said he had a doctorate in fucking xenotechnology and dark energy or some shit, and after some other fiddling with Asari Matriach writings and an Elkoss Combine license, he hands me some schematics to help with building the Crucible. A war asset called "Dark Energy Dissertation" popped up. It's only worth 1 point, but it says in the description that it was published by "Dr. Conrad Verner."
So he's secretly been a genius this whole time!? Is that what the game is telling me? The guy who's almost perpetually been too stupid to ever get the point has a doctorate in an area of physics that's too advanced for the 21st century?
Did anyone else find this insanely surprising?

I thought it was pretty funny, too. I really liked and was surprised by the fact BioWare addressed the issue from ME2 where the Paragon flag from ME1 didn't work correctly.

I was wondering where he would pop up. I know what to look for now.
And I don't think this is to surprising. There is a difference between intelligence and wisdom. Some of the smartest people I know or heard about thru the news and reading non-fic, are some of the dumbest in social situations. All that education caused them to miss valuable social interactions.

i know i found that funny, originally i thought conrad would be a possible squaddie in this game. but like you said, they kind of messed up his character in the sequal. i thought it was funny how he appologized for a design flaw in the game. "im sorry i went a little crazy and said you pointed your gun at me when you didnt."
omg i couldnt stop laughing, and then after shepard telling him to leave, trying to scare him off by mentioning this huge project we're working on. he is a expert on dark energy matter and has a docterate!? ahaha i thought how they worked that up was priceless, by the end i actually kind of liked conrad. he was a weirdo before lol, but it seemed like he got a little better.
and he didnt mention his "wife" during the whole encounter. who i secretly always imagined being either a blow up doll of commander shepard, or just another male companion. no way, that guy is as straight as a marble.

I had a totally different, forced encounter. No doctorate mention or anything.
Showed up out of nowhere and pointed out a Cerberus contact that was sabotaging medi-gel dispensers. Guy pulls out a pistol and aims at Shepard. Took a bullet for me, asked if he "did good", and died.

Really? Doc Verner, like the Specter Verner in fake N7 armour, haha!! Had no idea! No wonder his dissertation is only worth 1 pt. :p

I too had a different encounter. Slight variation on yours:
He dives in front of the gun, but lives. No bullet fired. The gun was sabotaged by ... another girl I'd saved in a previous game who's name I forget (will update when I remember), her and Conrad ogle each other, Conrad smitten that she saved his life and they walk off smiling at each other and talking.

Yeah I had your encounter...I guess they did a really good job on this one in tailoring it to your decisions from the previous games (unlike some other encounters/major missions).

Edit: Removed because i was saying exactly the same as the next two posts. :-/

Yep, that's the same thing I had as well. Pretty cool that it has multiple outcomes :)
