Scaring the Birds?

Im having troubles stunning the birds. its says to stomp but that doesnt stop them from attacking me.

any suggestions?

You actually have to do a stomp combo. Hit :ybut: once to start the combo, then hit :ybut: twice more at the point when the penguins feet hit the ground, then hit :ybut: a third time at the apex of the jump. That should do it.
