Challenge help

I've got most of the achievements now but am trying to get some extra challenges too.
I'm stuck on the Macro Skills Challenge - Direct a Sim who is out of the area to use the "work on skills" Action Option.

I have never seen this option, am I missing something really obvious??

All you need do for this challenge is to leave your Sim at home, but go "view" another part of town -- then, switch to the Sim at home (without traveling to him/her), and you'll notice the little home icon is now that Sim's activity, labeled "Keep the status quo for mood." Change this option from "Hang Out" to "Build Skills," and the challenge should pop.
