View Full Version : So how is the game?

I haven't played this one before, but I've played Resi 3(Only other classic resi I've played) and loved it. I just wanted to know how well it is story-wise, puzzle-wise and how the controls are. Plus a little insight into how quick/long it'll be to net the full 1000G.

It was my first time playing Code Veronica, and I really enjoyed it. The story was pretty neat, and the puzzles were just hard enough, I didn't need to look up a walkthrough for them. All of the achievements except for a couple are story related. The two weapon achievements I think are really hard, and I personally will most likely not unlock them anytime soon. It's an easy 700/1000, just those two weapon unlock achievements are a real pain, unless you're a veteran to the series. If you liked the third game, you'll probably enjoy this one as well.

Steve may possibly be one of the most annoying characters of al ltime, but If you can get by that its a great game. Double that if you've enjoyed 3.

I never got a chance to play this so this was a good opportunity for me. The cheap thrills that scared us when we were seven still scare us when we're adults in this game. I very much enjoyed it. Bad voice acting and all. Ahh the good old days of Resident Evil when they were actually scary.

I was so excited when the revealed that they were bring this game to the Xbox 360. I've always liked Resident Evil Code: Veronica, but for some reason, I never got around to completing it. Now, of course, I have bought it and I LOVE IT!! When you first start it, it's really hard - like the hardest Resident Evil ever. However, as you get into it, you learn all the little tricks (like now I've played it so much on XBLGOD, I have mastered how to dodge and not get bitten by zombies).
The story is that of an average Resident Evil: Claire is stuck on an Island full of Zombies and other B.O.Ws. Of course, it's never that easy and you can imagen that things never go according to plan. The puzzles aren't the best ever, but they're definitley there (It's not a "classic" Resident Evil without puzzles there to make your brain bleed).
Now many people (including IGNorant) are saying that it's a lazy port with no HD at all. First of all, the resolution has been increased which means that the general look of the game is no longer misty. Secondly, I have actually noticed a few changes graphically. Here's a few off the top of my head:
Water has been updated
There is no longer a distance mask (thick black fog to hide any object or texture pop-up)
Lighting has been updated to give the game a more realistic feel
Icy mist isn't as strong
There is, however, one change which I don't like which some may consider a spoiler, so I have written all spoiler comments in a small blue font, so skip that if you want (it'll be easier to read when you highlight it):
When you reach Antarctica as Chris, and enter the double doors onto the upper floor of the main hall (As Claire, you can see down to the next floor, but as Chris, it's all iced up). Now in the original game (Resident Evil Code: Veronica X, anyway), you could see the giant spider underneath that ice, yes? Well in the HD re-master, they have, for reasons unknown, removed that object from underneath the ice. You still have to fight him, of course, but you can't see him anymore before you fight him. It's more of a surprise now, but on the original, you had that thought in the back of your head "OMG, when is he gonna smash out?".
I am also actually glad that this had a digital release because it's so useful just to turn on your console and have it there instantly. And of course, Achievements make this game all the more better. Overall, I love this game and I don't see any reason why you WOULDN'T buy this again. I hope that little review help someone lol.

YAY! Great choice. I'm sure you're not going to regret it. Remember, what I said: It's quite difficult when you first start it, but it gets easier as you progress and get the hang of it, so don't give up straight away ^_^

Have played every other resident evil but still can't decide if I should get this is it one of the better or worse games in the series? How long do the two weapon achievements take.

It's simple... Code Veronica is the way Resident Evils should be made.

It depends on how good you are lol and how patient lol. Getting the rocket launcher isnt that hard. Just play the story a few times so you can get familiar with everything then go for the rocket launcher.

I played this on Dreamcast back in the days and besides Shenmue 1 & 2 and Skies of Arcadia this is one brings me back lot's of great memories. Nevermind if this isn't a top translation into HD, I'm going to purchase this anyway - just for the sake of good old times. :)

This is actually the only RE game that I have not played (not counting RE: ORC for obvious reasons). Will definitely pick it up after I have played through RE 4.
I really hope they release the older games on XBLA as well.

I'm looking forward to playing this again, I only played it thru once in the good old days.
I only remember bits of it.
I'm glad from reading merzitar's post that the "misty" look isn't as strong coz that was annoying lol.
