Hey, of your reading this then you might be able to help.

I am on the verge of buying a new Sony Vaio laptop (AR 41S) but want to confirm one thing before I purchase... Does it have a firewire port? I ask this because none of the specs confirm it being there but the images I've seen, it seems like there is one present.

Thanks in advance :)

The SONY VAIO VGN-AR41S has a 4 pin IEEE 1394 port which is the 4 pin firewire port. I found this via Italian Ebay auction: http://cgi.ebay.it/Portatile-Notebook-17-SONY-VAIO-VGN-AR41S-AR-41S-NUOVO_W0QQitemZ180141875726QQcmdZViewItem

I'm still looking for a better source.

Here you go Webb http://vaio.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProduct.action?product=VGN-AR41S&site=voe_en_GB_cons&category=VN+AR+Series

Direct to Sony's Vaio Uk specs scroll down to "Interfaces" there is one 4 Pin i.LINK™ (IEEE1394), 400 Mbps port (firewire).

Awesome. Cheers Clipse. I must've missed that earlier but I'm pretty sure that wasn't the spec I looked at :p lol

Appreciate it. Sony AR41-S here we come :woop:

No problem Webb, that spec is sometimes a hard one to catch because most companies list it as its official IEEE 1394 listing instead of just saying "firewire". Not to mention Sony has the whole special i.Link naming of it. Thats a pretty serious notebook you're getting, enjoy it buddy.

I looked for the official name as well but that seemed to elude me. I was going through images and the 3D viewer in the end and examining the ports lol I found one by the HDMI which looked firewire esque, I assumed it was, just needed confirmation if I am to pay that much for it. My assumptions have been proven right :)

Yeah, love the spec on it. Really can't wait to get my hands on it. Will be my first experience with Blu-Ray and 1080p as well. That bit gets me really excited. :D

I looked at the sony ones, but personally I think that the HP one I bought yesterday is better. It doesn't have firewire, though I'm not sure why you need that. Its main features are built in web cam, 5 in 1 card reader, and 3 USBs

Cause USB is not a worthy way of using High Def capture software, thats why. Its not the only reason I'm buying this particular model... Other reasons include...

Built in digital tv tuner
Blu-ray that writes
1080p monitor
2 HDD's (160 GB each)
Awesome speed in the processor (T7500 - 2.2 GHZ)
Black LCD screen
1.3 MP webcam
3 USB's :p
Some fancy card reader
External remote controlAnd some more that I probably forget.

Yeah mine has most of that, only one HDD though. Also no Blu Ray, just standard DVD with lightscribe

Each to their own. Being a big movie fan, the Blu-ray was a big selling point for me in the end :)
