Apparently you it's a very bad idea to tell some people that they cannot smoke (http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/07/24/sports/EU-SPT-BOX-Britain-Boxer-Shot.php). And I thought someone here *coughminty* said crazy stuff like this only happens in America because we love guns so much? Must have been vacationing Americans that did this ;)

Edit: made link easier to see

I'm appauled at the situation. I'm trying to imagine the thought process that was going through the criminals minds before this incident occured. My guess is not much at all due to inherent cocaine use

Couple points...
I don't really care about this story, just picking on Minty
I agree with the ban, smokers are terribly inconsiderate of others
American on vacation? And he got a gun in UK? How rampant are guns there? hehe

Few points in response,

1. Dont pick on my buddy,
(only saying this as ill need the team forums making :p)

2.Yep they are,
its pretty good though now as when you go for lunch you dont have people smoking 2 feet away in the smoking section while your eating.

3.I lied, probably just scum that did it,
its not hard to get a gun if you ask about in the right places,
or wrong places depending on your point of view.
You can even rent them for jobs,
but if you use them you have to pay for them.

Why are they selfish? because they want to smoke and harm themselves? I don't see the connection there... Anyways imo smokers should be aloud to smoke anywhere outdoors or in there own homes. And in bars.

I'm a cigar smoker, and the US is trying to do the same thing to cigars at the moment. There is a bill going around that would increase the tax on cigars from 4.5 cents per cigar. to 10 dollars per cigar. 20,000% increase? Cigarettes are only going from 39 cents per pack to 1 dollar per pack, and that is still over a 150% increase in the tax.

Smokers are inconsiderate? Funny, I never got that memo.

Don't get it twisted, they didn't shoot him because they're smokers. They shot him because they're douchebags who happen to be smokers. Same thing would have happened if they were being too loud and he told them to quiet down. Those types of ultra violent individuals use violence to respond to any confrontation, as they think injuring someone else makes them the better man.

It's easy to say smokers are inconsiderate if you aren't a smoker. You're not aware of how strong the addiction is. Keep in mind that for most pack a day smokers, going over an hour without a cigarette starts becoming physically painful. Withdrawals are a bitch, that's why people have a hard time quitting.

Most smokers would love to stop smoking, but the chemicals the tobacco companies pump into their cigarettes keep them from stopping. Ask the government why they allow tobacco companies to put arsenic, jet fuel, and ammonia into their product. A company would get shut down instantly for doing the same thing to other produce.

Then why is there like four spots for smoking in amusement parks/theme parks? It's outdoors, it shouldn't matter.

There are so many asinine things for smokers.

Plus you can't stereotype all smokers as being selfish...

I for one, am NOT addicted to cigarettes or tobacco products in general. I do, however take a smoke-break every now and then. I also smoke socially. I always write a date on the pack, so I keep track of my smoking. To tell you honestly, I give out cigarettes more than I smoke them. I can last for more than 6 months off just one pack.

I do think of the general public. When I smoke, I do it where no one can actually see that I'm doing it. I never smoke in a crowded area. I don't wave my cigarette around so that children can see it. I also don't blow my inhaled smoke into a crowd of people. But this is just me. I can't speak for everyone that smokes.

I absolutely hate it when people smoke, and it's selfish because they are not only harming others, but they are also harming those around them.

i can't beleive that people would shoot a club bouncer in the face for enforcing a smoking ban. i mean seriously,

Regardless of whether or not someone smoking is being considerate, it is not the governments place to step in and ban it indoors throughout an entire city. The power to decide should belong to the individual owner of each establishment.

I find the cities that do not allow smoking on sidewalks are not thinking clearly. Lets consider which probably contains more carcinogens and carbon monoxide, The cigarette of the person standing 6 feet from you, or the line of car exhaust pipes that are also right next to you. I know i can smoke cigarettes in a sealed garage all day long and not have a problem. How long do you imagine i could last if it was me and my car in the same garage with the engine running?

On topic:

Nothing surprises me these days. Simply looking in the wrong direction at the wrong time at hte wrong person can dorp you in a world of....well you know.
This simple bad timing can instigate stupid people to think you are challenging their masculinity or summat. These people go through life, think they have it hard and take it out on society as a result by getting one over on you by violent means. They probably haven't had it hard, (they may have I'm generalising) they probably have done nothing to help themselves in life either so could be a two-edged sword. Chip on the Shoulder syndrome is like an epidemic these days and there is little understanding or consideration given between people. To shoot someone in the face is madness for whatever reason. He was doing his job and enforcing a rule he had to. Why shoot him in the face? Cause they're four king idiots thats why. You can't put reason anywhere near this discussion.

I now digress to the smoking part.

I absolutely hate it when people smoke, and it's selfish because they are not only harming others, but they are also harming those around them.

Im pretty sure you mean that I'm hurting myself and others around me. How does me standing in a car park hurt anyone else? i don't smoke around my family or niece (who's 7) and am considerate to those that don't. If I'm out with people who I know don't smoke I ALWAYS ask if they mind. if they do I respect that and simply go outside or whatever.

I do smoke and for being told its inconsiderate (previous poster) to smoke while you are eating your lunch two feet away surely is more to do with the establishment set up isn't it? Is it my fault that that there is only a wooden bannister separating us? I for one always blow smoke away from anyone who doesn't smoke.
I agree its stupid and you shouldn't need to breathe my smoke and a little partition or putting us two feet apart may not be what you want, but what I wouldn't do is smoke anywhere thats clearly marked non smoking. I wouldn't sit next to you and spark up. It doesn't bother me that pubs have gone non-smoking. I just go outside between pints.

I think everyone wins in the long run as pubs are a nicer environment for all as long as I can still smoke walking somewhere or outside. We are clearly in a minority now but will it stop me? No. But I won't subject you to it or make it any worse for you either.

Not everyone is a selfish smoker, some smokers appreciate you have the choice NOT to smoke but I rarely hear anyone telling me thats it OK for me to have the choice TO smoke.
And even that is being infringed upon by the fact as from 1st July I can't smoke in all manner of places. Even the "bike shed" smoking area at work we can't use as it has a roof over more than 75% of the building (?). Its essentially three walls with a roof on. We can't stand under that anymore. Evn when its raining. Even though everyone out there obviously smokes.

Not digging at anyone before the witch hunt begins. Just my (long) thoughts is all.
:)

Well we all know they are crazy with their guns, they are going to need them though, when that zombie outbreak hits. Anyways i think we all agree that the guys who shot the bouncer are scum, why not have a good discussion about smoking, i commend you for starting the conversation:drunk
