Hey, I was wondering if any other users at x360a play guitar. If so, how long have you been playing, what kind of stuff do you play, and what kind of guitar do you play. I've been playing for about 2-3 months, I have a Peavey Raptor, and play all sorts of rock, usually pretty heavy. Drop-D FTW!

I have been playing guitar for around 12 years. I have a Made in Japan(mij) cream 72 reissue, a mij 57 seafoam blue reissue, an early 90s american black strat i had scalloped, a 50th anniversary cherry red american strat, an 81 Gibson Les Paul studio, an ibanez, 2 acoustics, and a nylon. As well as a lot of parts from cheap guitars ive frankenstiend for parts. I taught lessons at one point.

Most of my influences are blues rock from Hendrix to SRV. Later on i fell in love with classical masters, like Tarrega and Luis de Narvez, and there is nothing so beautiful as a full Bach arrangement on 1 guitar. I became increasingly frustrated with the fact that will never be play 32nd second notes at 160 bpm, like Yngwie Malmsteen or Micheal Angelo Batio. I pretty much quit playing around Nov 22nd 2005, the day i got my 360. Ive been picking it up again lately but i just don't have the passion for it that i used to. Honestly its kinda depressing.

I've been wanting to start playing a guitar for awhile, but I just don't have the money to buy a new one right now.

Guitar Hero got me really into it, and I know a bunch of guitarists from bands. I watch them play all the time and I'm just blown away by how awesome it is. A couple of my friends actually make pretty decent money on the side too, between lessons and playing for different organizations. My best friend makes like $60 every sunday for playing at his his church. That's a new 360 game every week.

I wish I was a Guitarists >< I do have a pretty Standard Electric Guitar in my room but its not used often, for some reason I just can't get myself to learn, I've plenty of books telling you how, plenty of videos with a person teaching you and I'm sure I could find more help on the Internet but I can't find anything to motivate me into learning :(

Don't bother with books, videos or anything like that. The best thing to to when starting is to pick it up, and mess around. Find out what sounds good Then you can use other media to find out the harder stuff.

I've been playing for about 4/5 years now, and that's how I started out. Also, it's easier to learn when you're with someone, say a tutor, face to face. They can show you chords how to move around the fretboard.

Like I said, I play guitar. I play mostly rock music and a lot of acoustics. I play a Gibson Les Paul Custom (white with gold trim). I used to play a Gibson SG, but I sold that to pay for my Les Paul. At the moment, there are 11 guitars in my house (the family's music crazy!), ranging from an ancient Burns Tri-sonic (barely playable now) to an American Fender Strat.

I also play drums! :D

I agree with Cold Rival. It really helps if you try to get a feel for your guitar at first, but don't go it alone for too long, you might develop bad habits. If you can afford some lessons, I really reccomend them. I've gotten so much better after just a couple of lessons. I find that books, DVD's, and magazines don't really help, unless you know how to play some basic stuff.

I play a Lefty Fender Mexican Stratocaster Black. I've been playing for a couple months trying to follow in the footsteps of my dad (who played with Bon Jovi in his high school days.) I play mostly Nirvana and a little bit of Plain White T's.

I disagree with the not learning from books, depending on your personality type. For me, learning tab was the greatest thing i ever did. Its so easy to read, and you can find a tab for almost any song in about 2 minutes. Then its almost like playing guitar hero. Though having someone who can actually show you is much better. If you are playing an electric guitar all you really have to learn is power chords if you want to rock. Or take McGrims advice and play in Drop D, then you can power chord with one finger. Doesnt get any easier than that.

One lesson that i didn't learn until much later in my playing days, is the best $30-$50 investment you can make, is to take your guitar to a certified technician for a setup. It will make your guitar play like butter and your playing abilities will increase overnight. A setup involves adjusting the trussrod in the neck so that all the frets are the correct distance from the strings. It also eliminates dead notes on higher frets that either won't ring, or quit ringing when you bend. The other part of a setup is adjusting your Bridge saddles so that all strings are the correct distance from the bridge to the nut. This is not the simple procedure that it sounds. You have to get all strings withing .005/inch of where the distance from the nut to the 12th fret is equidistant to the 12th fret to the bridge. This applies for all guitars, whether it be a $99 fender squire or a $3k vintage model.

I like your style wolf ;)

I also was self-taught through tabs, and people teaching me different things here and there. It really is not a hard instrument to pick up and i suggest it to everyone

Ive been playing for about 3 years now, and my current guitar is a Les Paul from Gibson. Going to get a Vanguard in the next two-three years. Some of my favorite guitarists are Michael Romeo, Alex Lifeson, Ywngie Malmsteem, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Buckethead, and Dave Mustaine. I play music from a wide variety of classic rock to classic metal. I like to play The Who, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, and Metallica; even though I don't really like these bands that much. I dont play as much as I'd like to, but its great.

I've been playing guitar for about 3 years, all self taught. I play acoustically, but love to break out an electric every now and then for a scorchin' rock fest! Guitar is my #1 passion, putting gaming in the backseat (something that is no small feat). My best days of guitar are more powerful than any best days of gaming will ever be. I play religiously, at least an hour or more each night. If you play on Xbox Live with me during the evenings, chances are when we're in a lobby, you'll hear me playing...

As far as my style, well, it's very tough to describe. I really only know a handful of songs people know, because from day one, I wanted to play my OWN music. I love to sing and I love to write, so I've been doing a lot of songwriting. You could say I play acoustic rock, sometimes folk, other times country, but I like it all, and have played it all (Drop D acoustic is awesome). There's something special about writing your own stuff and playing it for people, It's an emotion you can't get playing someone else's work.

I've also picked up the banjo recently, but have only played it one or two good sessions. I also like to write stupid/funny songs to lighten things up a bit, so for your enjoyment, I've posted a link below of a "Bluegrass" group I made up. Obviously we're kidding around, and the musicianship is pretty bad (my banjo work is horrible). The singing is awful, but I needed to do the most redneck voice I could, so don't mind the vocals.

Pretty soon I'll be posting some serious stuff online. I'll let you guys know how that goes.

Well, I quit when I was learning to play guitar. Got bored and I'm not a very musical person. But one of my close friends is a excellent guitarist and my uncle Frank is just amazing with the instrument.

I've been playing guitar for 5 years. I would be really good if I practiced some more lol I rarely play guitar because I'm always gaming. And when I do something musically, it's with fruity loops (program not cereal). I try doing solo work with guitar but I like composing electronic music more lol

Without playing guitar regularly, it's hard to excel by leaps and bounds. However, I too have used Fruity Loops, and want to make that known to you since you seem to enjoy it. I don't ever really compose, my bands bassist uses is constantly and churns out some of the best trance/techno/rap stuff I've ever heard, no lie! We've recorded a rap album once out of boredom, where we rapped recipes from a cookbook.

Very cool to see someone delving into something I've also worked with.

Speaking of Fruity Loops, that reminds me. What is Franco going to Full Sail for, was it for music production? I don't remember...Franco, spread the word my good man!

It's just that fruity loops is so easy to use, and yet you can make top notch music with it. Speaking of Full Sail I'm thinking about going next year.
If Franco is still around maybe I'll see him there :p

Yeah man, very reliable site. I go there whenever I'm looking for a powertab. And if you don't have powertabs yet I highly recommend it. It's free ;)
