how do you use abilities

how do you use abilities? i see these things with the dude's head on it and a plus mark beside it, but i dunno how to do it, i rented it, and they didn't give me the instruction manual for it so i'm lost on how to preform these

hey,
you start out each level with the same 4 or 5 basic heads. If you save enough money and found the secret locations of new heads you need to then buy them. Then when you go to a board that has that enemy head then you can use the head. Just remember to find the secret locations first to unlock them in the gift shop.
