Okay, so we went in for my wife's ultrasound today, and found out that we're having a girl.
Well, we were so certain it was a boy that we hadn't given much thought to girls' names. We've narrowed it down to Katie or Savannah, but we can't decide. If you have a preference, why not vote? It might help to sway us. Cheers!

Congrats. As for the name, i think that it could depend on where you live. I like the name Sevannah but if you were living in say Sevannah, Georgia then it would be kind of cop out of a name..
<and im really sorry that i have a dirty mind, but a ton of thoughts ran through my head when i saw the title of your topic, wondering what you and your wife needed help with>:woop:

Katie is very like, used. Savannah is unique.
I'd go with Katie though.
Congrats on the kid!

:biglaugh Yeah, nice try.
We live out west, so location's not a big deal for us. This will be our second child, but we weren't expecting this one. Damn you birth control pill!
Thanks for the votes guys. Keep 'em coming, I'll let you know what we decide.

I voted for Katie. That being said, here's the best advice I can give you. Obviously you either 1), like both names, or 2), you like one and your wife likes the other.
Case 1) Wait until the baby is born. A lot of people can't decide until they see the baby for the first time. Then it hits them. ex: 'She can't be a Katie, she looks like a Savannah!'
Case 2) You're fucked lol.
Tussell
07-24-2007, 04:41 AM
Now that L3giOn mentioned it, who thought of Katie and who though of Savannah assuming that it's "Case 2"?

We made lists, crossed off all the names that weren't on both lists, and then narrowed them down. We got it down this far, but whichever one gets eliminated next means the other one wins. It's just weird.
We like to stay away from popular names, but Katie isn't that popular lately, and Savannah is on the rise, so who knows which kids will have the same names?
Congratulations,
:)
both names are pretty boringm
i think you should call her x360a.org
:p
Seriously though i wouldnt pick a name yet,
just put them 2 on a list as you will probably change your mind a few times.

Not being a native it is hard for me to tell, but isn't 'Savannah' fairly red-neck name? I could be wrong ofcourse.

Actually, we don't like flashy names. Savannah is kind of southern, but not so much that it wouldn't work. I like Katie because I realize that although I've met my fair shair of Katies, I've never met one I haven't liked.

Katie Forcemonkey? Savannah Forcemonkey? Neither seem to have that certain ring you might be looking for. Perhaps a third option Laylah..... Laylah Forcemonkey. Now that is a name!
Congrats! My wife and I both teach and we do have a ton of Katies.... and only one Savannah. Both probably will be wonderful but without knowing your last name it is kinda hard to know. Larry is great name... unless your last name is Bagina.... if you know what I mean.

I think Savannah is more original. Congratulations on your child!
But, I really think you and your wife should choose whichever name you like more, rather than maybe altering your own decision because a few people posted here on their ideas.

I voted for katie, the only reason I did is because I don't like the name Savannah:p But I do think that you should hold off on choosing the name now.
I voted Katie, although Zef sounds like a much better name.
Savannah sounds too much like a flat grassland in a tropical or sub-tropical region.

I know! Right?
Actually, we put these polls around the net because we wanted to see the reasons behind peoples' choices. In the end, we're going to go with what my wife likes more - I'd just like for her to make a decision. Ironically for this board, she's actually leaning more towards Savannah, but as my daughter can't say that name yet, but she can say Katie, Katie's still around.

My vote was for Savannah, for the fact that it's just more original. Would it be Katherine or just Katie? Just curious. Sometimes more common names are good for kids, at least at a young age because you know how kids are. How about Katie Savannah ___? Just an idea, although I'm sure you've got a middle name picked out too. Either way I think they're both good names, and like you said, the matriarch makes the decision anyways ;)

If we chose Katie, it'd be just flat out Katie. I hate it when people name their kids something they never intend to call them. If you want your kid to be called Liz, name her Liz! I knew a girl named Millicent because her parents wanted to call her Millie. Poor girl. Millie is fine. It fit her. However, her college degree and drivers license say Millicent on them.

Okay, who's ready for the irony? I posted this poll on two other sites I frequent. At this forum, so far, Katie is clearly the winner. At another forum, it's a deadset 50/50. The last forum has Savannah as a clear winner. I guess we'll have to decide for ourselves afterall.
Or go with an option C. ;)

If you name your kid Savannah I will never, ever forgive you. Unless you're black. I'm not really being racist there, though, it's an honest point.
It's Katie or bust.

Ironic you should say that. Where I live, a black woman would never name her child that. It's a very blonde-hair blue-eyes name here.

Remember, never name your kid if it can be rhymed with somebody else. So don't name a kid Brock, or Rick, or... I voted for Katie, it's pretty common around here, but I like it better...

I'm guessing he/she mentioned Georgia because someone above posted about Savannah, Georgia.
But my own thoughts, I say Katie. Personally I hate the name Savannah and love the name Katie. It just rolls off the tongue, plus every time I even say the name I think KT. No idea why I love that so much.
EDIT: Damnit! I accidentally submitted Savannah. When you make your official count make sure to take one off Savannah and add it to Katie :p

First of all Razzleson, he/she?! What the fuck....
And my reasoning is yes, Savannah is in Georgia, a state which sucks, therefore the name Savannah reminds me of Georgia, making me want to punch women named Savannah so I voted to save the OP's daughter getting punched.

Congrats on the decision man, Savannah is a good name ;) And it's not "never disagree with your wife while she's pregnant" it's "never disagree with your wife". Greatest phrase I learned to ending any disagreement was "you're right honey" lol. Good luck with the baby man, put something up when she delivers. But this is the best experience ever!

My favorite episode of Lost (which we watch because my wife likes it,) is when Sawyer was teaching Jin English. He said, "Jin, there are only three things you need to know how to say to your wife: 'You're right,' 'I'm sorry,' and 'Those jeans don't make you look fat.'" So classic. :biglaugh

Maybe it's because my name is Rozin but I don't like the name Katie because it's so unoriginal. It's extremely common and I like unique names. As for Savannah, that's pretty cool. Unfortunately, I don't like that either particularly because there is a certain porn star named Savannah who I cannot stand at all for many many reasons (if you've ever watched the show porno valley maybe you'll know why). If you definitely had to pick, Savannah. I do not know why everyone voted Katie. Everyone is named Katie. Pick a new name. Pick something like Dionne which means divine. I don't think I contributed anything though haha.
