Alright while i am heading off to germany on tuesday and i know that there are some people on the forum who live there and many who have visited. I was wondering if there is anything special that i should visit. My friends house is right outside Heidelberg so nothing that is longer than a hour drive from the place?

I was born in Germany, but I don't really know the geography well enough to tell you what's an hour away from that city.
There's a few places you should check out if they're close though. The Black Forest is pretty cool. The Rhine river's awesome if you're into history, and it's pretty cool scenery. There's a bunch of different castles and whatnot, and they're all sweet. The most notable is Neuschwanstein, the castle that Disney used as a model for their castle in the theme parks and in the Cinderella movie. That place is awesome, you should definitely go if you can.

Well, Hiedelberg is apparently about 100km away from where my family over there lives (Bad Kreuznach & Gensingen) so you should be relatively close to the Rhine but I don't believe it's the part along which Neuschwanstein is located, and I believe the Black Forest is quite far away too. Apparently Hidelberg itself is pretty interesting if you are into history and the Nürburgring is about 2-3 hours away.

You have to do the Ring - its one of those things every man should do a couple of times in his life.
Nothing makes you feel more alive than almost going into a concrete wall at 150 mph...

Or alternatively, "going into the concrete wall" that makes one feel, rather dead.
Joking aside, i've heard that the autobahn is one crazy-ass place. Old grannies passing you at speed of 170+(km/h that is).

The Ring (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C3%BCrburgring) ain't the Autobahn, and the Autobahn isn't actually that crazy. I learned how to drive stick on the Autobahn actually and for the most part people aren't that crazy, especially in and around cities. The Ring on the other hand is awesome. I haven't gotten to drive on it yet (last time I was there it was the dead of winter) but next time for sure, even if I have to drive my cousins tiny little Opel.

The autobahn has a lot of speed restrictions on it now, and is so busy that getting any decent speed up is difficult. Hardly been past 140 on it, which isnt that great (220 km/h)

My Dads sister married a German and i have 3 German cousins. I never went to the nurburgring but i did go on the autobahn on the way to clay pigeon shooting briefly. I recommend black forest where they sell too many coo coo clocks. I went to the Disney castle and it wasn't great to be honest it took ages to get to the it and it was raining. I also went to some waterfall thing but it wasn't big but there was lots of them one after another and it looked nice dunno what it was called i was younger so....
But yeh go shooting you can get a license and clay pigeons are a laugh and when i first went i was shocked as the clay pigeons were in fact orange discs, i was gutted.
Oh and some huge lake i went to as well which was OK.
