I've got the Pelican Fan Stand. It's not much of anything. I never noticed it doing anything though. It collected dust even when I didn't have one. I just use it as a stand. I rarely if ever use it for a fan.

I have a similar fan...the Intec Glow Fan Stand. I honestly prefer any fans that are NOT powered by the console itself. The Intec Fan plugs into a wall outlet, so it doesn't effect the console at all.
As for collecting dust, the 360 will collect dust regardless of a fan or not. Those dust particles will build up and eventually burn up due to the 360's high temperatures, thus causing overheating and possible damage to your console.
Every now and then, just vacuum your 360. Hopefully that'll get some of the dust out.
P.S. The Nyko Intercooler is crap! I would stay away from it. I use to own one and it literally fried my 2nd 360. Did I mention M$ doesn't warranty that?;)

I don't recommend this at all. The 360 is the same as a computer it intakes clean, fresh, cool air and fans out the hot air. Also like a computer it has a motherboard, cpu, gpu, and thousands of little electrical components that are all suseptible to static discharge which can ruin the components inside. The vaccum generates a bunch of static electricity that can cause a discharge with a component of a computer or in this case an Xbox. I recomment keeping your console in an open well ventilated area, use compressed air to "shoot" dust out or at least move it around so it doesn't cake on components.
As for the fans some are beneficial, some are crap. Off the top of my head I know the Nyko Intercooler fan is crap, I've read so many bad reviews on it it's scary. The Pelican fan stand is certified by Microsoft because of its quality and supposedly does a good job. In the end though all fans will collect dust and its recommended to try to clean as much gunk out of them as often as possible.

I suppose you're right. It's just that I've been vacuuming my PS2 all these years and nothing has happened to it. But then again, the 360 is more "computer-like", so it does play a factor. I stand corrected.

X0 doesn't really need extra cooling actually, if you keep it in right place. (If you for some reason want to keep it in confined space then one of those coolers that draw power from the wall)
If your X0 heats too much then it is defect. (Although microsoft has admitted that all the 11 mil. or so X0s are defect. :) )

That comment was apparently taken out of context and has since been debunked. That's not to say the failure rate is completely unacceptable.

I think it also depends on the game being played, Viva Pinata and Kameo barely even make my 360 warm, Shadowrun makes it run hot after about 4 hours, but FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage makes my 360 run burning hot after only about 2 hours.

I actually prefer it without the lights. It can be distracting at times. It's ok because slowly, the bulbs are dying.:p

Last time my Xbox died a couple of weeks ago...it had a bad dvd drive. Even though it was the drive the first thing they asked me to get it ok'd for repair was, "You don't use the Nyko Intercooler do you?".
I bought one when I first got it and took it off after 3 days since I heard of all the issues they create.
If you use Nyko you'll void the warranty...but only if they can tell.

Yeah unfortunately it has proven to be not-so-well manufactured. However, there are guides online about how to make them more 360 friendly. The main trouble with them is that they are power hungry fans (needs 0.13 amps to power all 3) and that current is sucked from the 360. Unless you are good with wiring, i would suggest staying away from them. If you know how to set up a 12V DC adapter and a switch, it's not a bad device (post mod). I'll see if i can't get some pictures up when i get home of my mod, but until then you can look at this (http://starbase-12.blogspot.com/) guide to get you some what of an idea what i'm talking about. Mine is a bit cleaner than his mod, but as long as it accomplishes the idea of setting the fans to draw their own current it is fine.

I've heard alot of people saying the Nyko fan burned, melted there xbox. Ive had my 360 for about a year and i bought the Nyko fan on the same day. So far so good. No problems, my box has never froze up or anything and every month or so i take the fan to work and blow it out and get rid of all the dust thats built up in there. I guess i just got lucky with the fan i picked out who knows. (Knock on wood )

Why? They have stands to make it stand like that, and it's showed like that. That's how I currently have my 360.

its what causes the disk errors and also scratches the disk's. i have 2 xbox 360's. i ran one vertical and one horizontal. turn them on and off at the same time with the same game in them. PGR3. the PGR3 disk in the vertical on got scratched. and about a week later it got the ring of death. the other one is still running strong.

The disk scratches are plausible if placed in a vertical set up, however the position of the console would have no baring if it gets the ring of death.

Meh, my disc's get scratched anyways. I take the best of care of all of my electronics and yet they always get fucked up.

The main air vent is on the bottom of the console I believe. ;)
Anyone got any information on the Talismoon whisper replacement fans? My 360 over heats sometimes and I can't do much to stop it. I'd like to try these, plus my friend wants to mod his xbox and likes the look of the glowy LEDs. :)

yes the main vent is on the bottom of the 360. so if you have it verticaly it cant cool its self off as good as if it was on its side.

But if you're using a vertical stand that has a fan built in its actually working better for you. The stand intakes air and shoots it up into the bottom of the 360 where an intake fan is. If anything it helps get cool air into your system and doesn't impair it like just standing it up vertical.

That's how my setup has been. I actually don't have a choice, but to keep it Vertical. Not enough space in my room. With my Vertical Fan Stand, it shouldn't block any internal fans from running at a high capacity.
My 2nd 360 is down stairs and it's sitting Horizontally. No extra fan help there because I am NOT about to run the Nyko Intercooler again. Boy, does that damn thing heat up! I'm afraid one day it's going to fry my Wireless Adapter.:(

I'm pretty sure the engineer's who designed the casing took that into consideration during the development stage. You're asking what if it tips over is like asking "What if something falls on top of my horizontal set up?" Besides if you look at some of the vertical stands they kind of flare out to the sides which would give the setup more stability, however accidents can happen no matter how your console is set up.

Yeah......Ok.......It just tripped over the cable coming out of it yeh?
Sorry I just dont believe something with such weight and stability would literally just decide to topple over
