Both of you test your network connection. I'd bet that one of you has the NAT to strict or moderate. This happens to me all of the time and I can only connect to people who have their routers set to open nat.

Oh, well hell, this would most likely explain some things for me too. Thanks! :woop:

Mine is at moderate...how do I set it to Open?

OK, So I found some information on Xbox.com
If you are experiencing the same problem I am:
Xbox 360: Troubleshooting NAT status issues
SYMPTOMS
The network test that is performed on the Network status screen for the Network Address Translation (NAT) address shows a status of OPEN, MODERATE, or STRICT. If the status is OPEN, you have optimal settings for Xbox Live connectivity.
If you receive a MODERATE or a STRICT message, you may experience the following issues:
•You cannot join certain game sessions.
•When you are playing a game with other people on Xbox Live, you may not be able to hear what they are saying.
CAUSE
These issues may occur for several reasons including but not limited to the following:
•You are connected to Xbox Live by using an incompatible device.
•The device is compatible but you have the incorrect firmware.
Note You may experience the symptoms with the Network Status set to OPEN when you play against another user who has their Network Status set to MODERTE or to STRICT NAT. The host of the game will have to resolve the NAT issues accordingly.
THINGS TO TRY
1.Test your connection to Xbox Live. Note You will not receive a result for this test if you cannot sign in to Xbox Live.
2.If your router or gateway is using a moderate or strict NAT, replace it with an Xbox Live Compatible device.

That didnt work for my friend, apparently he had to cancel his Xbox Live service and buy a new card for us to connect.

I had similar issues. Until I updated the firmware for my router and set the router to uPNP = ON
(i had set the firewall manually but for some reason this was still causing intermittent problems)
Even when placed in a DPZ or whatever its called it made no difference.
So firmware was my problem. Worth checking if the above list doesn't fix it for you - especially if you are on Netgear. I now have no break up on audio when I'm talking to people too.
Hope it helps someone.

I have the same trouble with mine. When I connect using the wire the NAT is strict, but when I use the wireless it's open. Don't know why. Gave up trying to figure it out.

I have this problem a lot, even though my NAT is open and other people are too lazy to port forward, so what I do is just directly connect through my modem which is inconvenient but very effective.
