Right well that's what i am looking for and everyone around me seems to know which one to get so i thought id ask you lot who know better. It has to be LCD so what do you think is the best/cheapest 50" LCD HD Ready TV out there?
Also if you could post a link and i am in the UK so no less-well known American only or anything.:)
Thanks for any help or any information on where to get a decent one from.:)

Samsung make some pretty fine models, not too hefty on the price either. Otherwise check Panasonic or Pioneer. Make sure you get either 720p or 1080p native (which 99% of the aforementioned companies' models are anyway), NOT 1080i

I'd bookmarked the LN-S5296D from Samsung way back when it was released in the US, no idea if it's in the UK yet nor if it measures up well to equally priced competition. Worth a look though.

Most of the 50" seem to be FullHD on my usual stores of choice.
(47" FullHD=2k, 52" FullHD=4k. Expensive five inches there o.O)

OK, thanks guys but the best i go so far is are;
50" HD Ready LCD - £1,299.00 from Comet
50" HD Ready Plasma - £992.00 from Currys - Online order only.
So if anyone can beat that, that would be good. :)

What spec are they, though? 720/1080p?
Remember, 1080i native is for girls (no offense, pandora/haly/legion).

You're right though :D Even though my hdtv's going to have 1080i I think.

Ah, have you already got it ordered or something? It's not that bad, merely if you have the choice you'll get noticeably better picture quality with a progressive model.

Nope, it's waiting till payday. It's just that my budget's a lot lower than Adam Miller's so it won't be quite up to the scratch of these models!
Anyway, didn't want to derail :o Was just being nosy and dreaming of being able to afford a 50" HDTV :)

That's the plasma which doesn't say...

Thats the LCD which also doesn't say.
But it has to be LCD, ideally i want a 50" LCD HD Ready with contrast ratio of 10,000:1 (or more) and 1080p so start looking.:p
P.S Cheap as possible. :)

They are both 720p (1366 x 768) ~under 5% overscan or so (which is fine as long as you're not all elitist about such things)
Neither are 1080p, although will downscale a 1080p signal.

I am a bit elitist actually but not when it isn't me paying for it.:p I think we will end up getting the LCD one in about 3 hours and buy a mount off ebay, but would you rate those ones highly? or could you get a better one for less or a much better one for a little more?
Thanks for the help.

Wait until you buy your own place before even trying that card ;)
And dont see the point in B&O. More than happy with a 42" LG and 37" Samsung personally. Oh, and I pay for my own stuff ;)
Adam Miller
07-18-2007, 03:34 PM
Yeh because you have to :p and yeh i didn't even know what a B&O was but my Dad got it for doing work on a guys place who is Minted, Minty and he paid with that( lot of electrical work on a apartment in Knightsbrige and was going to sell it. When i heard i thought yesss and when i first saw it i thought oh its a make iv never heard of....crap! But know i know better and the time has come for a big one for upstairs. I hope i get to take it with me when i move out....

B&O Ferries make some classy, classy stuff. The thing is you could pick up a Pioneer/Panny with the same or better picture quality, more inputs, built in tuner etc, and at a third of the price. I wouldn't say no to one for free like your dad did, but wouldn't intentionally buy one meself... so your dad wasn't done over if that's what you're worried about.
Get the LCD, you have a week or whatever it is to see if you're happy with it anyway. Yes there are many competitive models at that price range but at the end of the day, if your eyes are pleased, end of story.
RE: wallmounts... yeah, great, as long as you set it up so the top of the screen is just above the top of your head/eye-level (not touching the ceiling like some mugs do).
If mounting on a partition, make sure you attach it to the studs or you'll be crying when it falls off, shatters, creating a hole in the wall between your parents room and yours leaving you with images of your parents a child should never, ever see.
Ever.

Ok so just when i go get someone who wants to pay for it.:p I am confused about the LCD and not Plasma part.
http://www.comet.co.uk/cometbrowse/product.do?sku=391085
On that link it clearly says LCD then click the image and go to the specifications and it says TV Type: Plasma
What's that about, any ideas?
Ill have to ask at the shop tomorrow i hope its LCD so we can get it tomorrow.

So went there today and it turns out that it is a plasma not an LCD ....
So sadly after hours of talking and killing a guy at guitar hero in comet (which i have never played before) we walked away with their brand new...
Samsung 52" LCD 1080p Full HD 15000:1 Contrast Ratio TV for £2,449 and my new baby.
We shall starve for a week but oh well.... im off to help run it up :) so happy.
Thanks for all the help and advice.
This is the best end to a thread ever. :woop::woop::woop:

The human eye isn't supposed to be able to see the difference between 1080i and 1080p until you get to 50+ inches of screen.

True, but Haly isn't remotely human.
(I'd originally said that was the size Miller's buying, until remembering it was about Haly... woops  you're not wrong).

Um, not quite. The webcam emits no light, seeing as it's infra, but the er, probe... well that's a different story altogether. Suffice to say we now know you're using Linux brand ovaries & womb version 6.5.
