ok as u can prolly guess my xbox has finally red ringed (3 red rings). Now when i bought it at best buy i also bought a 2 year warranty which is still good...and now microsoft has announced the warranty extension to 3 years for 3 red rings....i went to best buy and they had no premiums but did have elites and all i'd have to do is pay the diff...this wouldn't be bad bc i could really use the bigger harddrive...the problem? no way of getting my data onto the new drive...so i kept my box for now...the migration cable came to mind but i would need the serial numbers of both the premium i own and the elite i would recieve...so maybe put the elite on lay away (if they'll even do it) get the serial, get the cable, and maybe be able to swap data? any other ideas or suggestions on what to do?

now more important ?...lets say i just get a premium swapped at bestbuy when they get one in...will i have the same problem i would with getting an elite in the fact that my xbox live arcade games wouldnt be accessible unless i was connected to live? or have i completely missed the boat on how that works...this is an issue bc im not always located in areas where i can connect to live...if what i think is correct, then i could still obviously send it to microsoft, but the ? there is will i get my 360 back so that i don't run into this issue or will i just get some random box and still be in the same boat?....if anyone could help me out with some info it'd be highly appreciated...as well as opinions from the 1st ?....thanks

is it not possible to just put in the old hard drive and play the games you have loaded there and then switch it out for the new drive when you want to play those new games?

What exactly is the problem you are having? If you need a new console you could use your current hard drive with that one, you could just buy a core system then and save some money and you will keep all of the data on your hard drive.

If you want an elite just to get the bigger hard drive then you will need to swap the info between the two. I'm not experienced with how you do that, but you could splash out and get a memory card and swap everything over in small chunks.

I seem to remember people mentioning the Elites either coming with or a separately sold transfer cable, specifically for this purpose.

well my problem is i have to trade 1 in for the other so i wont have both hard drives at the same time...and in relation to the quote did u buy both and then send in for one? bc i need the serial numbers for both...in summary of my earlier post...i have a premium that red ringed i want either another premium or upgrade to an elite and what im wondering is will i have to be connected to live to play my arcade games?

I think you're stuck in a predicament, my friend. You won't be able to get your old HDD back if Best Buy is offering you the Elite. There's also no way to obtain the Migration Kit for Free through M$, since your Premium console will be in the hands of Best Buy. Either way, you'll be stuck with either your current HDD or the 120GB HDD. I really don't see a way around this situation.

About your XBLA games; The XBLA games will NOT work offline. You will HAVE to be connected to XBL in order to play your Full XBLA games.
