Alright, I come to you, my second family with a question that quiet honestly has almost ruined my night.
The girlfriend and I had planned earlier today that we were going to buy or first HD DVD rental off XBL and make a night of it. We ordered pizza, made popcorn, got drinks, the whole shabang.
Started a download of Orange County because she's never seen it, and here I am almost two hours later with a whopping 7% done.
Are you fucking serious? This question's more to the veteran XBL movie renters, is it always this slow? Or are there just a massive amount of people jumping the boat and renting the newly released Alice in Wonderland in HD?
If this is how it is, they'll never see another penny from me again until this gets picked up. It's not my connection either, my web speeds are normal and I downloaded a 1GB demo in under ten minutes (not sure on the exact time as I switched to TV, and only saw it was done during a commercial)

The movies take hours. Especially so the HD ones. I would put it at 3-4 hours for the regular movies, 6-7 for the HD. For some reason the movies take far longer than anything else to download from the marketplace. And I have 10mb DL speeds.

It's mostly due to the fact that everyone is downloading all of the E3 goodies right now (DLing the H3 vid last night when it first came out took me over an hour, and Sonic took about a half hour!)... I've downloaded 4 or 5 HD flicks. The first one took about 4 hours (Superman Returns, long-ass movie), the others were all playabe within 10 minutes and downloaded in around a half-hour. Pretty reasonable if you ask me, especially since you can wait a couple weeks to start the movie, so you can always start the download the day before you plan on watching it and not worry about it.

Yah, I downloaded a couple tv shows and it was always really fast but when I was downloading golden axe and halo trailers and stuff yesterday, It took all day to download. It was crazy. Those assasins creed and bioshock videos were worth it though :^)

That's a tough call, Razzle. It could be a number of things and I wouldn't be surprised if it were all the things that were mentioned above by other members.
I hopped on XBL yesterday, and my connection was lagging a bit as well. I downloaded Golden Axe and a few trailers, and it took longer than expected. I downloaded each content separately, btw. I also downloaded Sonic, which of course had a smaller file than anything else I downloaded that night. Sonic downloaded with flying colors. Quick and easy.
P.S. It's not my connection because I checked. I average around 10 mbps.

yah, I can confirm it now, I downloaded an episode of supernatural last night, It was ready to watch in about 5 or 6 minutes and by the time I was done watching it, It finished downloading. It must have just been E3, I downloaded around 50 videos from E3 and I basiclly left my 360 on for 3 days straight!

Yes usually the HD dvd's are much larger files, and longer download times. But nowadays i think it gives you the option to "play when ready" even during the download!
P.S : I encountered the same exact situation with my girlfriend, we were gonna download a movie, the DL started, and two hours later we were not even halfway done and had already gotten fiesty and then gone to bed :p
