Risen: Issues with Levitation scrolls

Can anyone explain what Xbox 36o controls to use to make the levitation spell work? When I cast the spell, the player just drops and will not rise upwards. What am I doing wrong??

When you cast spell (when you are still on ground) just move forward as usuall with left stick and when you in air use X to ascend a little and use B to descend.
