I dont remember the lvl but it was pretty early in the game where... you're going down a hall and there is a room on your left and a balcony overlooking a stair case and when you go to the edge to look down, a freak climbs up in front of you real fast, made me and the wife jump about 10 feet in the air, and i stopped playing for a while after it happened.

Pretty much all of the last level just because I couldn't see shit (didn't pick up the burning 2x4) so EVERY enemy came out of nowhere at me and scared the bejesus out of me.

The creepiest moment to me is when you walk into this one room in the school and there is someone at the chalk board running their finger nails across it and then on the right on another chalk board that says "Loose lips sink ships" and there is a pair of lips on the fucking chalk catcher at the bottom.

That, and the ending level (that ending level freaked me out something terrible) especially because of that constant noise in the backround that sounds like a thousand insects fucking.

The coolest part is obviously tearing that one guys jaw off. I think that should have been one of the 'finishing moves' on the d-pad.

My scariest moment was walking around the house lost forever thinking there MUST be someone around THIS corner, or THIS corner. Only to walk into the basement and see a mirror. "Hey look, I can see my reflection!" so I put my guard down to check out my manly good looks when I see this freaking thing behind me in the mirror coming straight for me!! I was so freaked I didn't turn, I kept hitting the mirror and getting hit from behind! Lol! Good times, good times...

I was freaked out so many times on my first play through that I can't remember them all. Here are a few of the ones that stand out in my mind, though:

The subway with those little bastards crawling around all over the place. The only thing keeping me calm was that I could take them out with the tazer.

The basement in the house creeped me out, because the freaks kept spawning, so I just wanted to get the hell out of there, but I couldn't find the damn thing I needed. And no matter what I did, they always came from behind, giving me a heart attack every time.

The number one place, though, is the damn shopping mall. The mannequins STILL freak me out, even after playing through the game several times. I still shoot/hit all of them to make sure they don't try to kill me. :p

The guy in the locker wasn't scary, because the entire build-up, plus the fact that they made you zoom in on him made me suspect that he was going to do something like that.

Could someone describe the part with the balcony more accurately? I'm trying my damnedest, but I can't recall a balcony with a staircase where a guy jumps up at you. Unless it's that one place where he doesn't actually reach you. That wasn't too bad.

I just looked down that corridor, whimpering to myself that I really didn't want to go down there. Personally I didn't find the game itself all that scary I kept anticipating something scary which in itself is frightening but the game itself didn't do much to scare me and I never really felt that sense of dread or imminent danger you get in some of the scarier titles i would put this up there with a game like Call of Cthulu where the game seems like it would be scary but it just doens't fill you with dread like it should.... I was more scared playing the F.E.A.R. demo lol that little girl popped out of nowhere...

Anyway back to the topic the scariest moment for me is just the random encounters when your doing something like turning a valve in the train level to put out the fire and one of the crawling bastards just pops out of nowhere haha a quick jump.

I was kinda like this, the first crazy dancing stick guy made me jump, because I was used to taking damage from behind from the regular zombie guys, but I turn around and was like "WTF"...

But the gym teacher was worse; andI was surprised how calm Thomas was after seeing that, he sounds REALLY calm on the phone after that thing jumps on him, my heart was still racing.

Also, the house reminded me of that fucking house towards the end of Deus Ex. That house built up so much tension during the entire thing, it had so much potentinal for something really freaky, and nothing happens...

Examples:

Departments store...I was told by a friend about the mannequin things, but not when it happened....so that was a nice surprise. That and walking into a room looking for hobos, only to hear someone whisper 'Hey...' at you...turning...and seeing nothing but dummies. Until I knocked over every one of them did I find the guy. Creepy.

The school. Walking towards a hallway with chairs and desks blocking it...Crap, so I gotta find another-*the desks and chairs get sucked to the end of the hallway with invisible force*- never mind...

The fat chef guy with the cleaver. I don't know about you guys, but if a 300lb man with a bloody cleaver came hobbling towards me after I missed him with my tazer; a couple swears are in order. Freaky shit.

Overall this was a creepy game with the right stuff happening at the right time. The sequel is sure to please as well.

The department store really got me. Had watched a "scary" film just before playing it but it was scary so I was in the mood for being scared which put me on edge more. I was sprinting the whole level and hitting every mannequin in panic.

I was using a guide for the birds and metal bits after that level so got warning that something would happen so wasnt as scared after that

I have only played the 6 first levels and therefore didn't read any posts in this topic, but the 2 most terrifying moments I've had so far were in level 4 when a monster came out of a closet and level 5 when all the mannequins magically moved. Actually all the mannequins in that level freaked me out, I knocked the head of most of them to ensure they weren't alive.
That being said, level 6 was lame. It only lasted 10 minutes and wasn't really scary.

this was the ONLY time i've ever screamed (out of fear) while paying a video game. but my second scariest part was when i was walking down one of the halls/tunnels on the subway level and i stopped walking becuase i wasn't sure if i was hearing my own footsteps. when i turned around, one of those freaky blue guys' face filled my tv screen.

I would have to say that the Fatal Frame series (especially the second) along with Silent Hill 2 would have to be the scariest games I have ever played. Condemned was still a damn scary game though and an incredibly fun one as well.

The scariest moment for me in this game was in the chapter 9 basement where I was just looking at the mirror and all of a sudden was attacked from behind. I know it does not sound very scary but it took me highly off guard and I was in such a weird state of shock that I could not even block the hits and just stood there and died.

the manequins are probably the most preductible event ... i mean it's obvious that they'll become alive at a moment.

Concerning the doll which magicaly appear .. ... let's say that i was expected that they all become alive ^^,then rush to you, and finally disapear...

The manequins in the store shifting positions was probably the creepiest moment for me, also late one night playing in the dark on Chapter 9 I was in the basement and a fly landed on my leg just as I got hit by one of the crawler addicts...

I remember one time when i was walking down a hall, or in some room and i hear a scraping noise. I look to my left and i see someones face pressed agains the glass scraping his nails on the glass. That and the department store were scary.

Gotta go with the majority here and say scariest part for me was definately the locker bit, after zooming and focusing your image, you just crap yourself.

I would say the gym teacher in the locker aswell. When Rosa says "Have you looked inside the lockers Thomas?" I closed my eyes when i opened it but realised he was dead so I felt a sigh of relief. When you take picture and he comes to life I was freaked out. I shouted SHIT!!! at about 3am which really pissed my parents off :(

True. This was only part in the game where I get really scared. When I was getting achievements, I tried to close my eyes and press buttons like blind. Luckily, my parents wasn't at home, they were drinking.

I have to agree with this! The guy had like no face and arm lol. Poor guy! Still, thats what he gets for being a gym teacher lol! :D

Man, this entire game made me shit my pants, and made me look like a little scared kid infront of my girl... I don't know if there was really one part in particular that scared me the most. Maybe the department store part. Those manicans were moving around and I didnt even notice!... till I got hit from behind :( scared the living SHIT outta me.

The mannicans in the department store definitely scared the shit outta me. The entire school level was extremely scary. But the #1 thing that me me jump out of my seat was when you opened that cabinet in the sewers with that lady in it who went "Bwah!!", she made me keep hitting her even after she was dead :D

i can finally post in this thread now after completing the game :D

the part that scared me the most was in the subway station, before you get to the room with the photos hanging over it. theres a balcony and when you look over it someone just jumps out of nowhere at you.

the atmosphere in the farm house was the worst though as i wasnt sure if it was me making a noise or something else. especily that mirror part in the basement
