You won't lose anything as long as you have the right data cable from Microsoft

The question was a little fuzzy but I think I understand. You have your old HDD, and you're going to put it on your new Elite.

If that's correct, your GT will be 100% in tact. All your saves and downloads will be there. BUT, you will only be able to access downloaded content while signed into Xbox Live.

All your achievements that were gained while you were offline will upload as soon as you sign on. Only difference is that they're say "Achievement Unlocked" instead of "Unlocked XX/XX/XX"

You don't have to recover your Gamertag, and I wouldn't recommend it for a number of reasons. Viable alternatives are to order a transfer kit from MS, free of charge (you'll need to register both your old system and your new one) and use your 20 gig for another week while waiting for the transfer kit; or you can buy a memory card to transfer your profile, game saves etc. and re-download all of your MP content. I did the latter (I'm really impatient) but it sucked ass switching my hard drive and rebooting my system every minute as I transferred 22 MB of saves per trip. I never even used to transfer kit and wound up giving it to a friend and still haven't got around to redownloading the vast majority of my old videos, game content, etc.

MAKE SURE you don't do what I did with the arcade games though... Transfer them with a memory card or the transfer kit, DON'T redownload them as most of your saves are lodged in the game itself and you'll lose your progress if you don't transfer the entire save.
