Cant finish off octaking

So yeah I think my save is fucked.... I just beat octaking, when it loads it sits in a black screen for a few seconds then pretty much the electricity is pulling me forwards and for some reason I can't seem to finish him off with like an extra hit or two to make the kill before he some how blows up and I fail... Pls help this is really pissing me off and I am ready to snap this game in half...

Ive been working on this one for the last hour and can barely get past the second was of brains. I hide behind the structure and use the pipe bombs but they just keep hammering me. Most of my attempts dont last more than a couple minutes before I die.

Ive tried using the beer and holo duke, but I am getting no where.

NataSS: The Shrinker is probably the best weapon for this part, shrink the Octabrains and use a pipebomb to kill them.

I never would have thought of that. Only downside is that I now have to redo the entire level to get that shrink gun back.

No...you can do it without the shrink gun. I made the same mistake and after trying for 2 hours saw a video on you tube which helped a lot. All you need is a Beer, steriods and if you have halogram it really helps...

Actually (easier way), you need a holoduke, beer and the freeze gun, and you need to turn on "Duke 3D freeze ray" from the extra settings menu.

When the battle first starts, throw the holoduke and hammer away on the boss with the devastator. When the holoduke runs out, hide & crouch down in the structure on the right and rapid-fire shoot (press the trigger a bunch really fast) the octabrains with the freeze ray and they should drop and shatter. Once you're clear from them, drink beer and hammer away on the Octaking again. Hide again, kill the octabrains, and fire at him again. His health should be low enough that no octabrains come and he's just throwing stuff at you now. Dodge left and right, finish with the devastator.

If his health isn't low enough and octabrains are still spawning, just hide again and kill them.

Also, when you have the freeze ray in Duke 3D mode, if you aim right, it will stop the octabrains projectiles from hitting you.

This boss was pretty damn annoying until it somehow went a lot better then I strickly followed the rules to: hide in the one shielded area (preferably crouched), drink a beer if you have one (there is another one in the shielded area for later or now if you need one), trow pipe bombs and only run out to grab more when your out. The octa's grab the pipe bombs so well timed ones can blow up 1 or sometimes 2. But just spam them... blow them up until your fully sure the waves are all dead.

Then just strafe back and forth shooting missles at the boss. Apparently when he's recovering his health and in the first 'death animation' don't shoot him as some bug might cause him to become immortal then. Once he's back make sure you have full ammo and you should easily finnish him off before hes done pulling you towards him. Just spam missles. I believe you get the devestator for this fight and it's killer agains't the boss. But pipe bombs are best again't the octa's

Just beat him on insane and it was rather easy once I figured out how to beat him. You need a holoduke and a shrink ray plus the devastator and the beer.

First drink a beer (if you have one good if not get the one in the box). Once its down unload a full devastator on octaking and toss a holoduke. Reload your ammo from the crate and unload another full devastator on him. If he isn't throwing the wall things at you just reload and fire a bit more. Now shrink ray all three or four octabrains and then pipe bomb them while avoiding the things octaking is throwing. Finally fill you devastator and just stand next to the ammo box. Unload straight into him lined up with his shots. Hitting the blasts in the middle with the devastator destroys them. When you run out reload at the box and don't worry about him hitting you because the time it takes to empty the devastator is enough to rechage any lost ego. If you really need to drink another beer. Keep going and he'll go down quick.

Trip mines also helped me in that area. While the guy's spouting off shit right before the battle starts I laid down trip mines all over deck, grabbed 4 more and laid them out. Then crouched in the secrue area while most of the first wave of octabrains got killed by my trip mines. The ones that didnt got pipe bomb'd. Then I unloaded the devastator on Octaking. After that, it's self explanatory.

I found out that if you face backwards while standing in the glass stand, the octabrains won't shoot at you, nothing will until you turn around or exit.

Wasn't as hard for me on insane than what other people were saying, took only 4 goes. Shrink gun + Pipe Bomb on Octobrains, and spam the Devestator on the Octoking while staying still. Diddn't even use beer/holo Duke at all.

I can confirm that this works because I just tried it myself very helpful since I do not have the shrink ray or ice gun right now lol.

That fight was borderline broken. you have nowhere to run, respawing enemies, only one cover that gets destroyed. That fight pretty much convinced me not to play the game again to get the other two difficulty achievements

Same here, there are 2 waves of Octabrains, grab the Shrink Ray from the stage before, then when you get to the crane sit under the control booth on the right hand side (as if you were looking at the octaking) crouch at the back and when the Octabrains (all of them) are in view and close to each other Shrink them all, chuck a pipe bomb and blow them up.

Do the same for the second wave.

Once all the Octabrains are dead, grab the Devastator and strafe left and right whilst pummeling the Octaking, the rounds from the Devastator should destroy his energy ring and the remainder should hit him.

Keep reloading and doing the same thign and voila you put him on his arse at the back of the level.

Just make sure you carry on attacking him when hes laying at the back (when he pulls the crane forward with electricity)

I beat the Octaking on Insane on my first attempt but had to do it a second time as the bloody thing froze! Fought it again and did it second time.

I dont think hes as hard as people have made out?!

Sounds like the shrink ray makes this a lot easier on insane. A word of warning for anyone going into this with the shrink gun - try not to lose it!!! I managed to lose it just before the boss fight, having used ice gun and devastator to defeat the assault commanders, the check point kicked in before i could swap back to the shrink ray. I died and the shrink ray was no longer there when the game reloaded.

But I did finally finish him off with devastator, 3d ice gun, and pipe bombs... it took many attempts - I lost count - but got there in the end....

I had that problem aswell. The octabrains will continually spawn until the octaking changes his attack.

Just keep unloading the devestator into him after you kill the first wave n then kill the second wave repeat & u are half way home.
