View Full Version : Missing something in Evolution boss-fight...

I've been trying to get 100% Purification in Evolution for a while, now. I can get to the final fight with the space-whale while maintaining 100% Purification easily enough, but I'm missing SOMETHING in it. I always wind up with 98% at the end.
I've been scanning every square inch of space, and I'm almost completely certain that I got all the manta-rays... I even set off an Euphoria-bomb at the point where two show up at the same time.
Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong? :(

Just posted my 100% with the information.
The two things to keep in mind in the fight are the 4 stingrays that are next to the whale. Two on both sides. You also have to hit every red gem, before they turn into purple missles ;P

...they TURN into purple missiles? I thought they just FIRED purple missiles. >_>; Well, it's a no-brainer, then - that's where I lost those percentages. Too busy focusing on the mantas to get all the scales. And the only way I can think of to rectify that is to carry 3 Euphoria-bombs into the battle - to use whenever the Mantas show up. Fortunately, I THINK I can handle the rest of the stage without bombs...

You absolutely do not need to use a euphoria to 100 percent that part, it's actually very simple, you get quite a few seconds to take down the orange spots on the whale and the camera pans at a direct angle shot on the manta rays on both sides, they never get away so just make sure to take them out a bit, then hit the orange spots, then finish them again. You get more than enough time to even lock on to 8 spots on the whale and time it right, so if you don't mind rapid firing just a few sets while taking out the manta rays it should not be an issue, just note they always spawn in clusters and you should be fine.
Of course you can blow a euphoria there, but I would say it's incredibly wasteful to do there, just make sure before you fight the phoenix you have 50 percent as that's the requirement (for some reason I often get to shoot one or two things passed 50 percent on the whale too, but i'm not sure why).
But yeah if you get shot at even once on that part you lose purification, same for some spots elsewhere.

It's more like 50.5% but they don't show that. I once entered the second phase with 50 but missed one gem and ended up with 99% at the end of the fight.

Interesting that you should mention that... I've noticed that there might be a TINY bit of leeway in that. You know that bit at the end of Progress, where you're facing up against two huge panels with moving, multicolored squares? And if you don't whack the squares fast enough, they turn into purple missiles? The first time I tried to run for 100% in that stage, I ended up having a line turn to projectiles and wound up with 98% - again (sigh). The next time, I had ONE square get away from me, turning into a purple projectile (which I shot down). I figured I was hosed, but hey, might as well finish what I started anyway, just to add another Reward to my collection, right? To my surprise, however, I wound up with 100% and an Achievement for my trouble...
So apparently, there's a little bit of leeway in those things... either because the total just comes out to marginally above 100%, or because - as you said - the game does not work with fractions, so as long as you wind up with at least 99.6%, it counts as 100...
Anyway, I know that it's POSSIBLE to take out the whale and the mantas without using Euphorias - it's never 'necessary' to use Euphoria. But I'm just not very fast, so when things get hairy, a bomb is a nice thing to have. And considering that it's very hard to gauge exactly how much time you've got on those whale-scales, I'd call that hairy...

Must be a glitch or something, when I played through that level on hard I lost 100 percent about 8 times because of that stupid part, lol.
And i'm saying you don't need t be that fast is all, the score you'd lose wasting 50k in euphoria means you're better off just rapping A 12 times to kill the manta ray is all, but again that level has a lot of leeway for scoring so if you feel the need by all means, I think I broke a million on level 4 or something as well, so points are pretty easy to come by in general.

I have tried i think 10 times now on Evolution trying for 100% on normal. For some reason I can't get 100%. Is it possible to miss some of the red crystals on the whale and them not turn into missles? Or am I missing something about the pheonix fight?
