I think it just gets added automatically. I'm sure my ego bar was bigger after entering the code (got the big package off ebay a couple of days after getting the game) but no messages came up to tell me it was.

hmm k, it still doesnt seem enough on insane 2 hits with those beserk pigs and i dieYou're in the Lady Killer Casino level I guess? What helped me a lot there was throwing trashcans... they're pretty much a one-hit-kill (or at least a down) on most enemies. The trashcan is best as it doesn't get destroyed on impact (unlike a vase) so you can throw it over and over again.

EDIT: If you're at the Duke Cave, throwing also works well there, e.g. using the golden statuettes.

i struggled a bit in the lady killer level

shoot almost everything with the pistol unless they get close enough to shotty them, and when you get to the last few berzerk pigs, have a steroid & beer combo to finish them off with your fists

in the slot machine room, stay in the back left force them to come to you (rushing them also works, but can go wrong too if you miss with a single shot, or, forget to reload after each 2 kills)

also, against the floating rocket guy a little later (i forget their names) hide behind the ammo box, it wont be able to hit you unless it flies into the hallway

just got onto the hive myself, not looking forward to octabrains, i hate the fuckers

I Was reading on the duke nukem website some one thinks that the ego gets added after all ego caps and bosses. Which is kind of a waste unless it transfers over to the next game save, does it?

yeah im upto the part in the slot machine room, thats where the beseker pigs crashes through the roofYeah, that's probably one of the toughest parts of this game on Insane. I used the trash can as my main weapon in this level. ;) If that's the room that doesn't actually have a trash can, you can go back to the hallway at the checkpoint and grab one. You need to do this right at the checkpoint because once you walk down into the room the door closes behind you.

oh im way past that now, i just passed the duke buger stage
what i did to get passed the pig cop hole i ran up to the hole as soon as they jump down they pause for few seconds before reacting to you. i used that opotunity to kill the first wave with my shotgun

So does anyone know how this works yet? I swear I've never noticed my EGO larger when I put in the code. I guess it's just automatic but it's dumb that it's not obvious.

The EGO adds right away. It's just easier to notice when comparing your EGO meter to a Boss meter. With ALL Ego awards, your bar is the same as a bosses, with the Pre-Order boost, it will be slightly bigger than the bosses. It will always remain (even if you reset your found Ego using NEW CAMPAIGN) active if you have the DLC. It does allow you to take a bit more damage but not so much that you'd NEED the boost to complete 'DAMN, I'M GOOD' difficulty so its effect isn't too noticeable on the highest difficulty.
