I have my windows phone on O2 with 500mb of internet surfing free a month. I've only had the phone 2 weeks and while playing an xbox live game I got a text saying I had already used 80% of this months quoter :eek::eek:

I was reluctant to get this phone on monthly as with my pay n go I could't go crazy and then get ahuge bill at the end of the month.

After getting this message I turned email checks to manual, all location setting off and anything that may use the internet.

could someone confirm if playing games for achievements will use my internet quoter - Even at home is it not free? - What is it that uses the 500mb, internet browsing or everything - emails etc.

Thanks

Wi-Fi data usage won't use up your cellular data cap, but it's wise to turn off cellular data in the Settings menu whenever you don't specifically want to use it.

Yeah I also have a windows phone (HTC HD7) on O2 with 500MB and live in Milton Keynes and im quite sure playing games doesn't use up to much data. Yeah Set your E mail to update manually even Zune can use date finding artist info the best thing to do is connect to WIFI that why you now your safe dude.

I'm on my phone non stop. I have 2058mb a month. I've used about 800 this month and it ends on the 11th.

I always turn on my WiFi when I get home so I don't use all my data.

Go into Settings, and from there... You won't need any help.

I just got mine phone from O2 (same package you are on most likely). I asked at the time about the usage, and they confirmed that if you are connected to Wi-Fi it does not count towards your 500MB per month it is only when using 3G.
I also asked about charges incase I go over the 500MB and they said you will not get charged for going over your limit. Once you reach the limit they throttle your internet connecting, so you won’t be able to view videos, download files etc... but you will still be able to send a receive e-mail. It resets on the first day of your next billing month.

That’s all assuming that the sales person told me the truth, you never can tell with sales people.

Also, the H next to your signal strength. This means you are connected to an HSPA connection (as far as I can tell this is another form of 3G, and does count towards your download limit). To connect to Wi-Fi you will need to go into your setting and make sure you are connected, I cannot see a way to tell if you are connected from the main screen.
