So anyone get it yet? Im getting mine tomorrow. Just curious if anyone else has gotten the chance to snatch one up. I can't say too much, but I have used it extensively and it is amazing.

I love Apple products.
This one should be cool.
The only thing that sucks is 1) I just got a new phone and 2) It looks to me as if the screen and the entire phone itself will get scratched easily.

The screen is glass, it doesnt seem to me like its going to be scratched very easily. The back of the phone isnt like the ipod and doesnt seem as easy to scratch either. The only annoying part of the screen are the smudges from your dirty hands, haha.

Yeah that too. Speaking of smudges, I gotta get a new cover for my iPod. The one I currently have is a pain in my ass.

Yeah I will admit it is a waste of money. As long as a phone calls and recieves I'm happy.

I've got a weak spot for technology, and seeing this made my craving even more intense. I got the email on friday and I watched the videos with an open mouth. The features on it look amazing. I can't wait for it to make it's way over to the UK. :D

I agree, but you have to admit...it is a pretty cool phone. Would you expect anything less?
The iPhone is not for me. As much as I love innovation and technology, it's too much money for me to fork out. I also have 1 more year on my Verizon contract. I will probably stick with them forever because Verizon has been good to me. No AT&T for me = No iPhone as well:(

I liked the Pirates commercial where he's watching the movie, decides he is hungry for seafood, maps the nearest seafood joint, and clicks it, then calls it. That commercial, though I hate seafood, made me happy. :)

I completely disagree with it being a waste of money. Why is it? To me its going to be incredibly valuable. Having all that it offers integrated into one device is so helpful to someone living in NYC like myself. The maps feature alone makes it almost worth it. Having a full web browser, an iPod, a phone, all my email accounts, the weather, WiFi, VISUAL VOICEMAIL! Come on, it does so much. Not to mention the fact that when you use it, it is just as smooth as in the videos. They didnt doctor anything, it really is that fast. Its amazingly light as well.
I need to stop though, as an Apple employee I am not allowed to write reviews of our products, but I strongly recommend you stop by and try one of these things for yourself. Its amazing.

I want it so much but ATM I am saving for a Macbook, I'm going to try and bug my Dad into getting it instead of a new Blackberry... then steal it when hes not looking!
But on a serious note, anyone whos got it please give a constructive opinion so I can judge whether it worth it...

Like it or not these things will sell like crazy. They have already sold half a million in the first weekend its been out. Pretty amazing.
Me I'm waiting for round two. I just know there will be a bigger, better, lighter and cheaper one that comes out in 6-8 months.
I look forward to hearing reviews until then.

The iPhone is awesome and all but I really have no use for most of it's features. About the only thing I'd use it for on a regular basis is the actual phone function and from what I hear voice/sound quality on the iPhone is rather middle of the road. And besides, at $500 or whatever, it really should have 3G whether or not I'm personally going to use it. For my next cellphone I'm looking at the Sony-Ericsson K850i (http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=us&lc=en&ver=4000&template=pip1&zone=pp&pid=10868).

I'm waiting to hear some reviews for these bad boys. I don't 'like' to, but somehow I always get sucked into being an early adopter and wasting my money on stupid stuff like this. I've heard two things and would like someone to confirm, both are show stoppers for me,
1. No vibrate setting - a must and I can't imagine how someone okay'ed this not being there
2. No flash support for web - again, half the pages I ever go to are flash, how can they not support that?
So battery life & dirty screen I could deal with, but no vibrate?!? My first cell phone back in 1992 had vibrate!
xJoex
07-02-2007, 06:10 PM
Yeah, big let down on the vibrate and Flash. But according to the papers a 2nd generation one will be made and will include 3G to sort out the internet problems, hopefully they will include vibrate in that...
EDIT: Ok I was misinformed! lol! It has vibrate!
EDIT2: Franco beat me to it...

1) EDGE....that right there alone makes it worthless to me.
2) Lack of third party development support. If I can't write an app for it, I don't want it.
3) Integrated battery...but hey...you iPod people don't let that bother you. However, I have to have a changeable battery in my phone.
4) 600 is a rip-off. You can buy a PS3 for that much...think about that. It was somewhere close to 200 dollars the estimate for profit on those things. That's ripping customers off in my book.
5) I just heard about no vibrate...another show stopper for me.
6) Last but not least. No activation. Phones are worthless when 40% of the people that buy them can't activate them. I'm sure that'll be sorted soon though.

I can't live without vibrate+ring feature. Trying to see who txts or calls when I can't hear the ring is a bitch. Then again, it's usually someone I hate, but that's not the point.

Where did you guys get this no vibrate idea from? It definitely has vibrate, haha. Edge is surprisingly fast and WiFi is amazing. I activated mine with no problems other than needing to get a preapproval but thats my fault for having bad credit, haha.

If I had 600 dollars laying around I would definitely pick this up. The only way I'd get this is it came down to 300-400. Plus I'd probably end up dropping it and breaking it, or having it get stolen. But they are awesome none the less.

I've used it on the EDGE network...it's excruciatingly slow. My EVDO just freaking flies.

Second to last paragraph. He seems to come to the same conclusion as I and just about everyone else. Read everyones thoughts. EDGE sucks. And with all that money they're making per iPhone...they could have splurged on the tech for 3G.

I actually heard it on a preview that day they were sold by some supposed tech expert minutes before they were to go on sale. I heard it on the radio, WTOP 103.5 (Wreckon's probably only one that knows of it). I always have sources, I don't make this stuff up! ;) It seems it was wrong, which is good to hear, but I will still be waiting for the next generation to see what improvements they make. I didn't purchase an ipod until the 5th gen cause I'm not an Apple nuthugger like so many people. IMO Apple is what Sony used to be - if it's by them it's automatically declared the best, then it's overpriced and scarfed up by witless consumers.

I would never buy it. I just barely bought my iPod because of how... restrictive it's functionality is. My fears came true when my iTunes stopped working, and when I tried to reinstall the program it wouldn't uninstall Quicktime so it wouldn't reinstall iTunes. Seeing as how you can't properly upload to the iPod without iTunes, now I have to use another computer if I want to upload anything.
The iPhone is the same thing. You have to use everything and anything that Apple provides, have to sign up for 2 years from AT&T, use iTunes, etc etc. I never have liked being forced to use anything. It's not really the "everything you need" machine either, by not being designed for business purposes by opening Word documents, Spreadsheets, etc as attachments. I think it only opens .pdf files.

Got to say for the money, its pretty damn basic.
Dont know why they would create a phone designed at high end customers and not put 3G in- silly move. Oh wait, its because the battery is crap already and 3G would kill it. They should have spent more on battery development.
Two year contract and a phone still costing $600?? Bend over cos you got screwed as much as a PS3 owner.

If it weren't for the Apple name, the phone would cost maybe 300. I won't be buying one.
For what you're paying, you are definitely not getting what you deserve.

I agree with Minty.
My friend and I were just talking about why wasn't the 3G in the iPhone??? Being such a great phone and it can almost do it all...why no 3G? With 3G, the iPhone would be unstoppable! I would even think about getting one...that is if it weren't already all sold out.:(

Although they are cool as hell... AT&T is not supported in Alaska... so me having a Iphone would be worthless....
If I can't use all the features of the phone... then it might as well be just a $600 Ipod

I admit it is really pricey and it doesn't have anything breakthrough, but my mom bought one (she is a Mac fanatic and a tech specialist) and it is VERY smooth and graphically superior to anything else in the phone/handheld market. Also it has the smoothness of a full Mac computer but without any of the other shit to go along with it.

Believe me...I'm not jealous. I make plenty of money to buy one. And, If I really wanted it that bad, my company would buy it for me.

There is none.
Yes, it lacks certain functions, but to say it's "nothing new" is a bit... off. Overpriced? Yup. Lacking? Yup. Innovational in terms of usability? Undeniable.
