Wow im amazed

I bought the 2007 edition of final fantasy xi the other day,
yesterday i spent ages setting up play online and then updating it,
then last night i installed the game,
And now im updating it which says 3 hours to update.
Its now been around 6 hours since i put the disk in the machine,
what a friggin joke as ive still not played the game.

Let's put it this way, they are constantly updating the game so the version you bought is probably 3-6 months old. Since then, there's been 1 huge update and many smaller updates including new items, new recipes, new missions, new areas to fight in, whole new "game type", etc. Get used to doing updates because SquareEnix are constantly trying to make the game better.

And I remember when the Beta came out having to wait a couple hours for updates to even play that.

Yeah...download time and the update time sucks since the 07 version is a bit behind huh?I watched all of Home Alone 2 and Land of the Dead before my game finished downloading,then instaled the updates...

But i got to play eventually....And i gotta say,for the fact that i JUST started and only played for about an hour or so before flipping over to the darkness(wanted to get some achievements) I had quite a bit of fun....

Just a heads-up on downloading/installing updates, even when the updates are downloaded, they are still partially being read from Square's servers. This means that if you try to update during heavy traffic times, your update will take longer.

For example when I downloaded the huge June update:
I first tried at 4PM PST and it said it would take 5 hours, so I turned it off.
I tried again around 11PM PST right before bed and it took just over an hour.
So make sure that you aren't trying to update during high peak hours otherwise it's going to take longer than normal.

It finally installed everything,
so i has a go and killed some bees,a few worms and some bats.
I tried installing the update this morning at 10am gmt as americans are asleep and most in the uk are at work,
Still took 3 hours though,
Least its done now.

Ive already set it up i joined the leveithan server.
That reminds me is it possible to transfer from 1 server to another every so often?

I think you can do it from the pre-select character ffxi menu...
Or from the play online menu...

But its a VERY painfull precedure for your character...he has to be thrown out into the void,then be flung back into a different world...and its takes money....

* 10am GMT = 7PM JST which is a peak time for all of the Japanese players. ;)
3pm GMT would probably be an ideal time for you as it would be 5am PST, 8am EST, & 12am JST.

* You can only do a server transfer if you pay $25. And even then, you can only change servers once without repaying. If you create a second character you can choose whichever server to start but you can't just switch you server whenever you want.

You also can't change servers until you've had your account active for 90 days, then have to wait another 90 days between subsequent server jumps.

well the good news is u install the online viewer and then the actual game. after that it's one huge update and not a bunch of small ones ^^ at least u didn't have to install multiple updates yet.
